Buyer says not as described, what to do

No way would i refund, i'd ignore them and take the neg if they choose to leave one. They could have said something when picking it up from you. I wouldn't part with cash unless i'd checked the item over first.
It's not as if they got it home and found it didn't work etc like with an electrical item. I think they are either trying to get some money back or don't want it anymore.0 -
I think they are just trying it on. From years of buying in auctions and private sales, everything you buy is "sold as seen" and its up to the buyer to make sure they are happy with the item before parting with the cash. If its not a face to face transaction then the buyer has to go from the pictures and description. If they have any queries they need to speak to the seller before they purchase.
In your example, the buyer clearly had chance to look at the item face to face before paying, so as a seller id tell them "sorry, no cigar".0 -
Unfortunately if they open a dispute with ebay you will probably have to refund them. You will definitely get a neg from then. I would offer them a refund of the actual amount they paid you on return of the house. They may decide it's not worth the hassle.
What sort of feedback to they leave & does it look as though all the sellers they've bought from have left them feedback?0 -

Hows this for a reply?
Hi ***, Apologies for the delay in replying. Im sorry you feel that this item is not as described. I must admit to being confused by this as you collected this item and looked it over before paying and loading it in your car. Im suprised that you accepted the item if you felt that it was dirty and more scuffed than you expected and that it was not as described. Regarding the door handle, we have had the playhouse for a few years and when we received the playhouse it did not have a handle, to be honest I was unaware that it should have had one, the listing contained 8 photographs of the playhouse and none of these show the doorhandle. I hope that this answers your concerns, regards, ***0 -
Good response!
If they do leave a neg, then just respond to it saying something like "buyer inspected item on collection and liked it"Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
thanks Pink, message sent, will await reply and the inevitable neg, I love ebay but sometimes I really hate some ebayers....just had a quick scan through buyers feedback that she has left for others, lots of negs for postage costs/delayed postage/not as described...feel a bit better now0

Your response sounds spot on. If they do leave neg hey ho. Its happens but its clearly not through your own fault as it was sold as seen. As PP said you can respond to the neg comment if they do leave one0

repy from buyer...
Hi,thanks for replying, when collecting the item we did look it over, our main concern at the time being thats everything was there &it all worked.as the parts were all stacked against your house we had a limited view of the house and never saw it up or in full view.it was of course when the house was put up in our front room to check it was fully functional that the extent of the dirt became obvious.the house is basically filthy &sratched up,but i am not telling you something you wouldn't already know& so now i am confused because your message clearly shows that you aren't disagreeing with me,but just questioning that i only realised when the house was put up at home?clearly the item is not in the great& clean condition you described& you are not in any way trying to resolve the issue that i contacted you about&as such your reply does not resolve my dispute regarding the item not being as described.the amount i bid was based on the description you gave which was inaccurate. regards, XXX

Hi *** I really do want to be clear on this, I do disagree with you on the condition of the playhouse. You had the opportunity to check you were happy with the item before paying for it. You indicated that you were happy with the item when you paid for it on collection. You and your partner carried the playhouse to your car piece by piece, if the item was as dirty or as scratched as you claim then I struggle to see how you did not spot this when carrying it to your car given the fact that you handled every single part of the playhouse. If the item was as dirty as you say it would have been apparent long before being errected inside your house and I am sure you would not have erected a "filthy" playhouse in your front room. Im sorry you remain unhappy but I do not feel there is anything I can do further. Regards.0 -

Sounds good. Personally I'd ignore any further correspondence now, you made your point clear. Though it may be wise to save all messages and print out a copy of the auction for future reference.0
