Tariff to send texts from Africa

Hellooo...

O2 contract is up at the end of June - am going to Africa for 8 months so don't want to continue with my £30 a month tariff. I was going to reduce it lower and use any free texts from abroad, as you could send them for free it would just take 4 out of your allowance. However now the tariffs have changed you cannot send any texts from abroad for free :(

I am fine to go on Pay and Go, as I won't be sending loads of texts using my UK phone, but wondered if there were any networks or tariffs that might be particularly good for me. The most important thing is that I keep my number.

Thanks in advance...

Just copied this from O2 web site

    Inclusive texts

1 UK picture or video message is equivalent to 4 text messages. Picture and video messaging is handset dependent. 1 text message sent from abroad is equivalent to 4 text messages

Yes but thats for 2009 tariffs, when you change tariff (which I need to as I dont want to carry on on £30 a month) you revert to the new Ts and Cs:

    Inclusive Messages and Message Charges
Inclusive messages on O2 Pay Monthly tariffs (including iPhone tariffs) can be used for unlimited:
texts sent in the UK to UK mobiles,
(for 2009 Pay Monthly tariffs only and not 2010 tariffs), texts sent from abroad (including Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Mann),from your mobile phone for private, personal and non-commercial purposes. This excludes international texts and/or texts whilst roaming.

Mackemdave it happened when they brought 2010 tariffs out. Sorry should have mentioned OH works for O2 so I am definitely not going to get anywhere with them sadly as I've always been with O2!
