Hi I had a phone call from a friend today. I have known her for over 20 years and we have had a close friendship even thogh she lives miles away. She is out of work and really struggling at the moment. She is feeling very 'down' and puts part of the reason down to not eating properly. Since she has no money left she has been eating out of the cupboard. All she has left are tins that are out of date.
This time last year, she sent me £60 ,as a treat, to spend on our first ever family holiday (Tesco vouchers bought the holiday). I was really touched by her generosity but knew I didn't want to spend it.The money is still here in the draw and I want to return it to her. I thought that I would like to do an online shop to be delivered to her.
Is this a good idea?
Should I tell her?
What do I buy?
If I open a Tesco account for her i could use a £10 off £50 and maybe set up a QUIDCO account too.
Shopping for food is really tricky for her, something she doesn't do very well.
What do you think??
TIA

That's a really really lovely idea, you're obviously a great friend
I'd be very pleased and touched if someone did that for me. Also it's way more helpful than just sending the money I would think. I'd open a new tesco account for her and have it delivered straight to her, tell her the night before it's due so she's in when they come. Also if you get some money off you could get some extra treats, bottle of wine, some chocolate or something as well as the usual food things

Go for it...Its a lovely gesture...If she is surviving on Out of Date tins then anything you order would better than that..

Brilliant idea. You are a lovely friend. Would you like another pal? It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

What a nice friend you are. Don't tell her it's the £60 she gave you, just get her a nice shop in with maybe a bottle of wine and some chocolate as well as her basics and know that you've done a great thing!'The road to a friends house is never long'0

Do you know what your friend likes eating? I'm asking because I have friends that are quite particular about what they eat and what brands they like and I can be like that too. Perhaps you can get vouchers for her and send her those instead? Or at least let her know beforhand (she would need to know anyway in advance as she will have to be at home for the delivery). It's a lovely idea and if you're sure that your friend will appreciate the gesture then I'd say go for it!0

Try to get more tinned style stuff, or pasta etc.. not loads of fresh stuff..
Think it's a brilliant idea..
crisps/choccy/cereal/wine/juice to make a drink with/milk/eggs/sugar/tea/apples/toilet roll !! /shampoo..
I know those are some of the things i'd prefer to have.
