Slow Cooker Lid Broken.....eek

Comments

  • I have an old prestige crockpot slowcooker and the lid today has broken on me, does anyone know if I can buy spare lids and where from - I have searched the net but can't find what I am looking for. And would it be worth it should I get another one and if so any recomendations for a family of 4 size?

    Many thank yous
  • Might be worth giving their customer service line a ring to see if spares are available.

My slow cookers are all old ones, so I am sure someone else can help recommend an alternative, newer type.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • Don't you have another pot lid that will fit?? I use an old style soup plate as a lid on mine, and it seems to work just the same.

Before you spend a fortune on a new lid, look at the price of a new slow cooker. They have improved so much over the years. Maybe not very money saving ~ possibly, but you can buy a new one very very cheaply.

If you can get in a Makro, they usually have them for about £20 + vat. Tchibo is another site worth keeping a check on (you get approx 10% as well if you go through Quidco). They have not got any at the moment, but get some really good bargains.

If you've got the same slow cooker as I have - Prestige Crockpot, with the orange base and brown shallow pot - I'd be inclined to try to get hold of a new lid, depending on the cost or do as trying-very-trying suggests and see if you have something that will do the job.

I've had mine for 33 years and although I've also got a newer & larger one, it doesn't seem to cook food as well as my old one.

    Regards

check out all the local to you car boot sales - I 've seen loads of slow cookers (& fondues  ) at them - I now have all the kitchen gadgets - mostly unused - I had on my wish list! Usualy the slow cookers go for about £1-5 depending on size & make so hopefully cheaper than buying just the lid!

i too had a similar thing happen i cracked the handle of my old crock pot

making it hard to get the lid off i rang the company for spares

who wanted to charge me nearly 15 quid + p and p just for a new lid

so i treated myself to a brand new Bigger slow cooker which was only £4 more than i would have paid just for a lid

got mine in tesco's and got the points on it too :T
  • Hi there to the users of Prestige crockpots. I wonder if you could help. I have had one which I have inherited and want to use but cannot find a manual to advise. I don't even know if it is one which I have to add water to in the base before putting in the crockpot or if the base heats the crockpot direct. I did make a note of the customer service line but it was closed when I rang and would like to experiment over the week end. Can you help?? Many thanks in anticipation. M J

  • Hi, Not much help, i know but have you tried asking on freecycle, you never know someone may have one, perhaphs because their slow cooker isn't working anymore and they just might have that model with a perfectly good lid. Just a thought. Good luck.
