spitting might be gross but it's hardly the same as throwing a punch.
Spitting at someone is an arrestable offence - because it is a disgusting and filthy thing to do.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

as far as i could see only one person spat so it's not a 'they' is it?
i think that they were provoked and as such were in a 'loss of control' situation. i think 'loss of control' is a reasonable excuse / justification for the spitting in this case yes. so i don't think it's a 'right or wrong' situation. but a justified one yes.
if a group of male louts were hanging around outside a womens refuge over a period of months, even years, and said insulting things and carried banners and put up posters suggesting batterered women were asking for it or deserved it. if one of the men then started shouting out across to a group of the women as they were going about their business and was aggressive when they came over. and if one of the women then spat on him and he then punched her in the face and kicked her as she fell to the ground.....
i would applaud that woman and the others with her and charge the man.
i don't think this case is significantly different.

The hypothetical situation you outline is not comparable in any way. For a start your situation is a chain of events, happening over a period of time. This is an apples & pears situation.
.
you think the bnp in east london is not a 'chain of events'?? they've been stirring it in that area for months / years. this is not an isolated incident of yob meets yob 'are you looking at my girlfriend?' type behaviour.
i think my analolgy is very relevant.
the tensions in this area have been going for ages with bnp provoking the non-white electorate.
if there was a party that were anti-women and were putting up posters and had supporters goading and name-calling in the streets would you not see that a provocative? Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

There is no way your analogy is relevant or comparable. This incident happened in the heat of the moment. Your analogy described a hypothetical situation where a party of males regularly campaigned outside a womens refuge frequently, harrassing those inside. Regular harrassment impacts way more than a one off situation. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
