The last one we opened the other day my wife did indeed use a tin opener. It was actually rather difficult to do so because of the corners. I would also ask this, what would happen in the event of a serious injury if somebody uses a standard tin opener to open one of these tins? That person would not be opening the can in the approved manner as set out by the manufacturer.

    Take care.

If your so paranoid about this and desperately need a corned beef fix. Go to your local butchers and buy some that will be of higher quality from local beef rather than the Argentinian beef the tinned stuff is from. So your be supporting local business getting better quality meat and wont have to wear a Flak jacket when opening the tin.

Also I suggest you get a Hobby. You really sound like you need one

Thank you. I had a bad day and reading this thread has made my day. Brilliant. So funny. Been PMSL.

To the OP. Get a life mate. Life is far too short. One day you'll wake up old and wonder why you spent so much time wingeing about corn beef.

Thank you so much to the last few posters who seem to think I should get life etc. When you all have problem in your lives let's see how constructive the comments are for you.

I am not whinging I am merely asking about something I see as a danger. It may seem hilarious to you sad few but to many people on the bread line the humble tin of corned beef is vital source of protein. Yes, I do mean the tin as loose (ready sliced corned beef from the meat counter) is often actually twice the price or yes I would purchase it this way.

    Take care.

I have a nasty scar down my middle finger due to the old style opener. So I find the new style much easier/safer

I have got similar scar on index finger, as do two other people i know, all from opening can of old style corned beef.

Wouldn't attempt it again after that, had to get someone else to do it and then only if they wrapped tin in a tea towel when pulling apart.:o

Can you turn the can the other way up and use a can opener?
