Beware of ring pull cans!

May I just ask the members of the forum what seems to be a strange question?
Have you had problems with the new style ring pull cans especially corned beef ones? I can't really call this research but I would be interested to hear if you like or dislike the new style cans and why. My reason is that a certain manufacturer of corned beef has changed from the old style key opening to a ring pull. In my opinion this is now extremely dangerous as it is an out of control situation to simply open the can. It is out of control because of the sheer amount of force that one has to put into removing the lid. I cut my finger open the other day and while this was superficial there is the potential for a very serious cut or wound.
I have been in touch with the manufacturer, who I do not wish to name at this point in time, only to be told that they have spent £5 million over 2 years in developing this new method of opening. I have pointed out that I feel it is now dangerous. But what do you think if you have come across this ring pull opening? It may be specifically down to canned meat or even just corned beef.
Thank you reading this post I look forward to any feedback. I may approach Trading Standards if there is a big enough problem.

Personally I don't think it is any more dangerous than the previous system whch left 2 sharp jagged edges. Yes you have to use more force but I have never felt 'out of control' when doing so.0

The ring pull corned beef can are far more easier to open than the key style and in my opinion, far safer.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

I feel that at least with the old system you knew you had to be careful. With this system it at first appears to be safe, but it's not.

Why do they make corned beef in a stupid shape anyway?
Make it round, and all you need is a can opener to open the can with, like everything else that comes in a can.
So does anyone know why corned beef is made that way?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Anything has to be better than that stupid key system, you'd get about 3/4 of the way around and either the metal would snap or it would twist over the top of the key and you couldn't go further. Now I always just use a tin opener on both ends and push it through. I've never had a problem with ring pulls.D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0

I think you need a little perspective. Its a can of corned beef not exactly life threatening. People have been opening different types of cans for 200 years. I have yet to hear of any life threatening injury caused by one,0 -
Lakeland do a great little plastic gadget called a Magipull for £2.49. My hands are severely damaged by arthritis and I can open any ring pull tin very safely with this. Its all about having the right tools for the job!0

Yes. We had problems opening one. I think the make was Princes. I got the same letter saying they had spent X amount of money and 2 years research into it. I received a letter of apology and vouchers.
Never bought one since.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
