I love the new ring pull cans.
I find them much more convenient and you just need to remember that opening successfully requires safety goggles, gloves and at least one grown adult.0 -

I think you need a little perspective. Its a can of corned beef not exactly life threatening. People have been opening different types of cans for 200 years. I have yet to hear of any life threatening injury caused by one,
Oh I agree, it is merely a can of corned beef. However, I do honestly believe that it is just a matter of time before there is a life threatening injury from this new way of opening them. It may be that it is only one manufacturer that is using this method, I don't know. I'd quite happily go back to the good old (or bad depending on how feel about it) method of the key to open the can. Trouble is I've only found this particular manufacturer who offers a low salt version of corned beef.
I'd like to add here that I have had no problem with various manufacturers who offer such things as mackerel or sild (or other fish) in ring pull cans, they work fine. The same goes for some canned fruit.Kevan - a disabled old so and so who, despite being in pain 24/7 still manages to smile as much as possible0 -

Never bought one since.
Ah..... without making any other disclosure, I could say 'snap'Kevan - a disabled old so and so who, despite being in pain 24/7 still manages to smile as much as possible0 -

As a disabled person (arthritis in pretty much every joint including my hands and fingers) this does matter to me. I suspect it would impact a lot on older people too. We all get older and we all find that our fingers etc don't work as well as they used too.Kevan - a disabled old so and so who, despite being in pain 24/7 still manages to smile as much as possible0 -

I too think the new design is potentially very dangerous. I take great care when opening them and am running my stock down and won`t be buying any more. The thought of the lid cutting through my hand gives me thr jitters.0

Are you following the diagram instructions on the can?
If you bend the ring pull right over till it breaks the seal before trying to pull it I find the top comes off easily.
Both myself and my wife followed the instructions absolutely to the letter. This has happened with at least 4 cans now. On a local forum I have heard of others having exactly the same problem and they too have ended up cutting themselves because of the design. It's not a case of not following instructions.Kevan - a disabled old so and so who, despite being in pain 24/7 still manages to smile as much as possible0
