We're combining a week in Dubai with two weeks in the Maldives. There are lots of trips from our hotel to keep us busy, and snorkelling which we both love, besides its our honeymoon, if I have too many activities to cram in I won't stop and rest, and everyone said after the wedding I'll be more tired than I ever imagined and this was the one time to have a chillout holiday rather than a busy holiday.

We're staying at the Westin Mina Seyahi in Dubai for which is an art deco hotel on the beach in Dubai, the first one off Palm Island

Then onto a water villa at Reethi beach which is currently undergoing a refurbishment so will be snazzy and new, I fell in love when I found out it has the most dolphins of all the maldives islands, and there is a giant turtle who lives under the decks of the water villas!

We had 4 nights in Jersey :rotfl:Had a brilliant time actually, and it was nice not to have to worry about currency, visas etc! We thought it would've been too much excitement to have an amazing wedding followed by the holiday of a lifetime... but I still managed to get traveller's tummy (I think it was the nerves before the big day)

OMG we travelled around Thailand for 6 weeks and only spent £3k, we didnt skimp on the hotels either, stayed in some really nice places.

I cant believe how much it costs for a package trip out there.

Have a great time out there, you'll love it, its an amazing country.

  • top of our list is Canada, currently planning to start on this side & do Niagra, then travel over to the other side (either fly or train, not decided), really want to fit in visiting a spot where you can see the Northern Lights, but I'm not sure we'll be going at the right time

no fixed plans yet though as not even set a date!

Im not sure you'll get much off, all package deals out there seem very dear.

You could try booking yourself? Our flights out there were £450pp with Emirates, with a stopover in Dubai on the return leg. Decent hotels out there will cost you £20 per night, more if you stop at branded hotels such as manderin oriental or hiltons etc.

You can get a decent B&B type room with hot water and AC for £10 night or cheaper if you dont want the AC/hot water (cold showers can be quite refreshing after a hot day out in the sun)

We went and stayed at an elephant rescue centre in the north of thailand, its around £250 pp/wk full board and was a great experience, which we're doing again for longer on our honeymoon.

We stayed at a gorgeous beach hut (with hot water) on Koh Samui. Beach was practically deserted and we stepped of the veranda and onto it. It was lush. That was £16/nt

You can book everything before you leave the UK, you dont have to get out there and wing it. Use trip advisor to look for decent hotels of a standard you are happy with.

We're going to the lake district for the first week to chill out and recover from the hullaballoo of the wedding, staying in a quirky little cottage in Grasmere: http://www.heartofthelakes.co.uk/dovecot_cottage.html

Then we're planning something more adventurous and active and abroad for the second week but not sure what yet! Any ideas? As it's only for a week, we don't want a really long flight. Also on a fairly tight budget as we're youngsters who haven't had years to save up so something not too pricey...
