Have a go at this online test to see how you cope driving whilst in a conversation (only 19% pass the test)

Interesting. I was 1 off. I fail too see how it demonstrates more dangerous driving though; you're not counting stuff like that when you're driving! You're just giving way to pedestrians etc. Propaganda from THINK, the government sponsored anti car charity again.
  • What a fantastic test, I regularly make a mental note of the colour of peoples' clothing while driving.

I agree with rev_henry - I'm note sure that was entirely representative. There were a lot of shirts to count and its not something people are used to doing. I don't see what it has to do with driving a car.

I guess it is more a test of multitasking than driving.

How well you can concentrate on your surroundings whilst holding a conversation.

I don't think anyone really considers it a driving test!

Yes but the tasks you would be doing in practise are:

    1) Operate the car (for an experienced driver this done intuitively and requires very little concentration)

    2) Look out for obstacles and hazards

    3) Talk on the phone

The test introduces several additional tasks including

    4) Look out for coloured shirts
    5) Count coloured shirts
    6) Remember the points each shirt is worth
    7) Add a running total of the points each short seen is worth

So in this multitasking excise you are doing approximately twice as many tasks as you are when driving a car and talking on the phone.

I do agree that you shouldn't use the phone while driving but I just don't think the test is representative of real conditions.

I counted about twice as many points as the actual answer.... but then I realised Id been counting the reds as 3 and yellows as 2!!!! Oops.

Still quite an interesting test but as I dont use my phone at all when driving then it doesnt really apply to me!

Blimey, I just read that last sentence back to myself. I didnt mean to sound so "holier than thou"!!! :rotfl:
