Hello

I am looking forn some techie advice please before I go off my head lol

My aunt has recently bought a new compaq laptop with windows 7 on it. She then bought an o2 mobile broadband to be able to connect to the internet as she does not have a home telephone.

I have followed all the instructions and installed the product and updated it so that it is windows 7 compatible and It still doesnt work. The lights are all flashing correctly but it doesnt seem to be picking up o2-uk

I was hoping for some help please as I have tried and tried for 4 hours last night and an hour this morning.

Many Thanks

Hi , have you tried the O2 checker to find if she can receive it ? I will look at my O2 account and find the link , O2 are very good at refunding if you are not happy, but did she/you check first if it is receivable.

Hi thanks for your reply. I am not quite sure what you mean. Why would she not be able to receive it?

I will take a look at your link.

Ok I see what you mean now. I have just checked my postcode and its high.

I think its something to do with the laptop not picking it up. I didnt want to make a complicated 1st post but I will try and explain a bit more.

I too have an o2 dongle and laptop and mine works fine. I tried my o2 dongle in her computer and it doesnt seem to pick up the o2 network either its weird. I spent an hour on the phone to o2 this morning who were very helpful but unvortunatley still didnt get to the bottom of it. They said it must be a faulty dongle and to send mine back and they will send a replacement.

I am not so sure its a faulty dongle as if it was surely my own dongle that I have used many times would have worked but it doesnt seem to either.

I was hoping that maybe someone could have talked me through what I should maybe look for on laptop or something to solve this mystery.

    thanks

oooh now I hadnt thought of that. Thanks for that I may try that tommorow :-)

It is really weird how it wont work though. It has been driving me crazy since last night. My poor aunt saved up for ages to be able to afford this laptop for her and her children and then this was the last step and now its not working, I feel gutted for her that she has to wait even longer and just wanna get if fixed for her asap

Why is nothing ever straight forward eh

Sorry Mrs T but have you tried your Lappy and yor/aunt's dongle outside out her property. There is a (very large) possibility that the coverage map says it should be ok, but it is all down to radio waves and there is no way that any provider can say that this is guaranteed to work. Having said that some dongles have external wire aerials that can help i.e. by siting them on the windowsill etc

I see where you are coming from but I dont think thats it. I have my laptop sitting on table and hers beside it. When I plug in my dongle to my laptop it works fine. When i plug in my dongle to aunts computer it doesnt work and also her new dongle doesnt work in either computer.
