No, it is NOT a typo! Please, please, please... if you need to sell your car, please don't try selling it through these guys...

I have an old banger. It has done me proud, but basically she is getting uneconomical to keep her going. I thought, as you do, that I would see how much they would give me so I could put it towards another car.

After asking every question known to man, they said my car was worth £70. I thought that was pretty good as it is slightly more than scrap value. However, then I read further...

"An administration fee applies on purchase. Based on a purchase price of £70, an administration fee of £49.99 including VAT will apply."

...leaving me the grand total of £20.01! I am fairly certain that if you were offered more, the fee would be higher.

So if you need to sell your car, please look elsewhere. I am so angry that someone may fall for this that I am writing this post. It is always the people who have least who have most to loose from people like this.

In my area you can get £130-£140 for a scrap car and they come and collect it

if it has some MOT left, stick it on ebay and you'll get at least £150 - £200 without me even knowing what the car is.
10 months or more and it could be £300

I know people can go elsewhere... I just wanted to name and shame them. I realise that people will still use them, so if I can stop one person falling for it, then it was worth the few minutes to type the post.

"falling for it"? falling for what?

It is my understanding they auction the cars they buy, mostly. Now either you car was a total heap, in which case you would have done better to have someone collect it for scrap for £50 (£30 more than you would have made from WBAC) or you can let them buy it, and as part of the agreement, you pay those admin costs. Its not their fault your car wasn't worth much, you said youself you were surprised they gave you £70 - how much profit do you think was in your banger for them, assuming they're not in the scrappage business?

If you car wasn't a total heap then it is my belief that their service priovides a handy way for people who need to sell their car quickly (and maybe for not as much as they might otherwise get), but with no hassle, and a trouble-free buyer, for those people, WBAC provides a good service.

Just because they didn't shower you with cash when you rolled up in a cloud of smoke and backfire doesn't necessarily mean they're conning you. How about a make, model, year and mileage of your vehicle for people to decide for themselves?

I had vastly varying quotes to sell my car - webuyanycar told me my car was only worth £600, a garage told me it was worth £1200. In the end I sold privately for just under £1200.00
It depends on how desperate you want to get rid of your car & how much 'hassle' you're willing to go through with checking the scrap companies and/or advertising.

I would assume "falling" for the offer of £70 when in fact the payment was only going to be £20.01.
It would seem reasonable to expect that the offer is what you end up getting paid.

Regrettably someone has to pay for their dreadful advert and guess who that is.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
