Nick, I had a phone call from my local Conservative office this evening asking me if I had voted. I have never been canvassed by them, am not a party member and am registered with the TPS. Why did they ring? were they within their rights to do so? and how did they get my number? TIA.Murphy was an optimist!!!0

I don't know the details on this. My understanding is that tele-canvassing people who are TPS is illegal, but that getting your number (which is relatively easy - especially if you are in a target seat where they will tele-append your number from various lists that are for sale, or maybe just scour the local telephone directory) and then calling to remind to vote is a grey area, that no party wants to investigate.
As to why they rang, there could be all sorts of reasons; they might think that you would vote Conservative. They might have made a mistake.0 -

Thanks. I am in the phone book, do live in the stereotypical Conservative part of the seat and Lord Ashcroft did send me 8 leaflets.
As to whether or not they made a mistake, my vote is between me and the ballot boxMurphy was an optimist!!!0
