Congratulations to all on this thread, it's the most civilised that I've read on here in weeks.

My problem has been that we are a marginal and the incumbent has had his snout in the trough. However, he has been a very good constituency MP and did vote against the war with Iraq. I'd like to vote for the 3rd party as a protest against him but fear that would let the second party in. He represents the the party I think will do least harm.

Wageslave, I feel your pain - are we second cousins?

I am looking forward to telling the exit pollsters to mind their own business. :)

It's either that or saying monster raving loonies, to mess up their poll!

It's not class, it's values. Your grandfather (and mine) sounds like a clause 4 socialist. Nu Labour do not represent these values but they are nearer to them than the rest.;)

    Feeling nervous now.

I genuinely like 2 parties and would be happy to see either of them in power. Neither of them is likely to be; one lot may be a major player in a coalition, though. Neither, I suspect, will win or come close to winning in my constituency.

So what do I do? Vote with my heart...or my heart?

Shame I can't split my vote, or vote twice... ;)

OH has gone off to vote, taking the kids on the way to school.

    They are quite astonishingly excited.

Even my 3 year old is complaining he wants to vote, too - daddy had to sit him down and explain he was just a little too young... :D

My 6 year old came with me to vote, excited at seeing how it's done, only for the idiot who sat behind the desk to tell us that most people in our village have been voting for the BNP.
Not only do I not believe it, I can't believe he said that. And I've had to explain it to my DD sort of what they are, without explaining about racism, because she hasn't come across it before and wouldn't understand it.

I can't believe they told you that! After or before you voted?

Surely that is against the rules, as it could influence your vote???

Re the BNP, we've explained the BNP to our 10 year old - she duly ripped up the BNP leaflet when it arrived, with great delight. :)

How are they meant to know that! Aren't they supposed to be impartial? I'd have had a word with some of the party representatives that stand outside the polling station.

Report them, they are council workers and should be impartial to say any party is completely wrong, not to mention he would actually have no idea without opening the box.

Ring the council and complain, I doubt you will be the first with what he is doing.
