Your renewal notice? Jesus wept. Just ring your insurers, tell them you haven't had the renewal documents, check the database - every five minutes if you want - and then either renew your tax online or go to the post office with the relevant documents LIKE EVERYONE USED TO!!!111

I know you pay more to do it but you might consider renewing your tax for six months and then twelve months thereafter. That way you shouldn't have the same issue in the future and end up sounding a bit pathetic.

Of, failing that, sell your car and stay indoors.

Do you know when to expect my renewal notice? My road tax is due on 31/05.

Anytime before the 31/5 but you need to have received your tax renewal notice first.

Wow, harsh. The OP meant their tax renewal notice, not their insurance renewal.

It wasn't that harsh. The six month tax thing was good advice. But either way, what's the big rush?

This sort of thing never happened when all you could do was tax a vehicle at the post office. People were more organised and more laid back. As soon as you introduce an insurance database that everyone has access to, everyone is on it but not everyone understands it.

I guess the point I'm making is that I don't need a database to tell me whether or not I'm insured, I don't need the DVLA to write to me to tell me when my tax is up. and unless there's a good reason I definitely wouldn't be getting into a flap about it nearly a month before The Event.

    I agree.

I agree with you on all of this, but I still think you were a little harsh.

thanks, laney85 for this link. just checked and it says it's on the Motor Insurance Database today. How I can check it for the later date? My renewed insurance is for 29/05/10

Actually, I'm not sure that the database will update ahead of the policy starting (you could cancel anytime up to then), so you might have to be old fashioned and take your docs (when you have them) to the post office after all.

In which case it's a very good idea to get 6 months tax to stagger your insurance and tax renewal dates for the future.

Wasnt harsh it was plain rude..

to the OP you should have your renewal notice 21 days before your renewal date as that is whats required by all insurers/brokers according to the FSA.

MID all insurers have to report renewal or new business within 7 days and then takes 3-4 working days to update so in essence can take 11 working days to appear on the MID. This could well pose you problems when trying to tax online this year.

6 months is an option then 12 however your next renewal date would then be 1/12011 not sure I would want my tax due just after christmas. Alternatively you can pop down to any post office to do over the counter

Problem is 6 months tax is more expensive (pro rata) than 12 months.

The OP's insurance policy renewal date is 29/5/10, so if he wants to pay his tax on line then he can do this on 30th or 31st perfectly legally. You get an official 5 days of grace to display your disc as long as you apply for it online before the previous one runs out.

again, it's the TAX renewal notice that's missing, not the insurance!
