car insurance not on the Database

Hi, I renewed my car insurance on 30/04/10 and my road tax is due on 31/05/ 10. Today I tried to renew my road tax online and wasn't able to to it as it says you do not have a valid insurance cover (insurance policy may not yet been updated on the motor unsurance Database or else). I haven't receive my insurance docs yet so what I have to do? I do not want to leave it until last minute.

You already have - it is now 5th MAY! And there isn't a 31 April.

Both insurance and tax documents should have arrived at least two weeks ago - this is to give you time to get everything in place before they expire.

Now you are at risk of fines for no road tax, failure to display a valid tax disc and possibly having your car towed for no insurance. Keep your insurance phone number and policy number handy, but ideally don't drive the car.

sorry, I made a mistake - my road tax is actually due on 31/05/10!!!

In that case you have plenty of time. It can take a week or so for the insurance database to be updated.

You can't renew until the middle of May anyway, even if your insurance were sorted.

Try *reading* your tax renewal notice

thanks, laney85 for this link. just checked and it says it's on the Motor Insurance Database today. How I can check it for the later date? My renewed insurance is for 29/05/10

It used to be the case that you couldn't renew your road tax until 14 or 15 days before it was due. That is no longer the case and you can now renew it as soon as the renewal notice is received.

Do you know when to expect my renewal notice? My road tax is due on 31/05.
