If you've done the cabling you only need to swap the LNB, no need to swap the dish you have just the LNB, so it should (assuming your not too brutal) remain alligned correctly.

It is a bit of an art getting it spot on though, I used a £15 signal finder from B&Q, does need power to it so you'll need to send power through RF 2 output, but done it on 2 places in the last 12 months, no probs.

Also if you're getting the quad LNB set up, when looking on the signal menu its more important that the signal quality is high than the signal strentgth as such on feeds 1 & 2

Does take a bit of fiddling as I say, generally get the dish so the signal is as strong as poss, then adjust tha angle of the LNB to see it it gets better or worse

If the sig went dead when the scaffolding went up then chances are the scaffolding is either directly blocking the sig or is having a Faraday cage effect.

So if you put the new dish up,it may not work either until the scaffolding comes down. When it comes down, will you have access to align it?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Think, you're right, meant to say the same that the scaffolding is causing the prob. Think you'd physically have to mount the dish on the scaffolding on a temp basis, then move back once its removed, although you'd have to be aware of when they are taking it down as doubt theyd hang around waiting for someone to remove a dish.

A friend is a scaffolder and these boys work fast, they dont hang about, especially when gravity is on their side when taking it down!

Thanks for all the very helpful replies.

The present dish is squashed up against the floor of the scaffolding and my guess is there is no line of sight to the satellite and hence no signal Because of the inaccessibility of the dish it would be difficult to simply replace the LNB with the quad.

The timing with the scaffolders is what I am very much aware of. Luckily for me the work on the roof has not commenced yet so I will have the weekend to do it (weather permitting).

The information you have given me on signals/signal strength/signal menu and the "Faraday effect" has all been taken on board.

You have told me much more than I had hoped for and I am extremely grateful for your help.

I will get back to you when the matter has (hopefully) been resolved.

As some have said, you don't need to change the dish. You just need to fit the quad LNB to the existing dish (assuming the mounts are compatible)

Macman, I would have thought though that if there is no signal at the mo (if due to scaffolding blocking view) then a chg of LNB will not improve that as it simply cannot pick up the sat?

Yup is really easy to do

Not necisarily. While working for Sky,I often came across dishes on which the LNB Collar was so tight the only way to change the LNB was to change the dish.
This is more common on the older dishes.Mind you,we use larger dishes over here in NI than you do in England so that may not be the case.

Yes, changing the LNB will not improve the signal if the scaffolding is blocking it.
I was just making a general point that it is not necessary to change the dish to install a quad feed.
