You were evidently seen by a helpful official, who decided that making you sign off and then on again was too much hassle for all concerned. The rules are very clear: JSA can only be paid while you are on holiday if you take your holiday in the UK.0 -

Then you were given the wrong information.0 -
u are entitled to 2 weeks holiday home or abroad and yu do not need to be actively seeking work in the two weeks u are away. Looking for work and available for work is 2 different things
Sad thing Is there's several people on forums that seem to think because u don't work you are not entitled to a holiday irrespective of fact that you were working for prev 20 yrs and made redundant.
you cant go abroad without your claim being stopped for the time you are away. of course if you book your holiday between signing days and dont say anything you can go abroad but if you were found out you could be in trouble.
what i described previously is correct because i got the info from the form and also from the jobcentre.0 -
Hi all,
you can't go abroad for a holiday and keep on claiming JSA. You should sign-off and on then do a rapid reclaim when you come back.
Everyone deserves a holiday...... but you can't claim tax payers money and take a holiday at the same time. Sorry0 -
You can not get JSA while on holiday abroad.
End of.
Sorry but I work in a JCP office. You can get JSA while abroad if you are claiming conts based. Only income based JSA should be stopped for a holiday abroad. This does not always happen and I have heard of people claiming income support, conts JSA and signing on for their NI payments without JSA having their benefit stopped. '
As the OP has not stated which form of JSA then you cannot say they will not get JSA. End of.0 -

Can you back up your statement? If not read through the Guidance.
I posted earlier in the thread the circumstances you can claim JSA abroad.
JSA(IB) and JSA(C) can not be claimed if you have gone abroad for a holiday.

Jobseeker's Allowance
Information about contribution-based and income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) if you are moving or living abroad.
Contribution-based JSA
You cannot usually get contribution-based JSA outside the EEA. However, you may be able to get contribution-based JSA in the EEA for up to three months if you:- are entitled to contribution-based JSA on the day you go abroad
- have registered as a jobseeker for at least four weeks before you leave
- are available for work and actively seeking work in Great Britain up to the day you leave
- are going abroad to look for work
- register for work at the equivalent of a Jobcentre in the country you are going to
- comply with the other country's rules on registering and looking for work
If you are going abroad permanently you cannot get income-based JSA.
You cannot usually get income-based JSA if your stay abroad is only temporary.
Check with your local Jobcentre office if you need to fill in any forms before you go abroad.

However can however be treated as available and actively seeking if you went abroad for a job interview, for a maximum period of a week for the purposes of JSA. However you would need to contact the JCP and advise of this prior to leaving the country, the advisior when seeing proof should treat as straight forward.
Income Support is treated different from JSA as your not required to be actively seeking or available for work and is governed by different rules for stays abroad.0 -
Hi
I've recently finished working on JSA benefit enquiry line and Killmark is correct at stating that you cannot claim JSA whilst on holiday abroad. You can fill out a holiday form if holidaying in the UK although you don't receive payment until you return and sign on.

Shame that I did get one "I am a taxpayer" type response... but anyway... I will be claiming taxpayer money while on holiday as my housing benefit doesn't appear to be affected.
Just to confirm what most people in here said: I went to the jobcentre and they explained that I will have to sign off and make a rapid reclaim when I come back, as my holiday is outwith the UK.
Thanks for the replies.0
