Going on holiday while on JSA

Hi people
I am going on holiday to France for 2 weeks in early June but I have been made redundant and my job ends on 15th May. I plan to sign on and claim JSA after 15th May. Presumably you have to sign off if you go on holiday abroad? I don't care too much about the pittance I get from JSA but I am wondering if signing off also means I will lose my housing benefit and council tax rebate. I reckon it should but you never know, right?
I booked the trip months ago when I still had a job if that's any consolation for the "I'm a taxpayer" types who always respond to things like this

I think housing benefit and council tax benefit go by your household income not wether you are receiving benefits or not.
sure someone will come along in a mo and correct me if I'm wrong tho

Yes, that's right. You can claim HB/CTC while out of the country, but not JSA.0

Change of Circumstance i.e. Income so no payment will be suspended until the change is accounted for.
It is the claimants obligation to inform the council of any change within 30 days. If they are informed of one before you get round to it, benefits are suspended until proof is provided on how this impacts their benefit payments (stops overpayments and fraud).
Note the claim has not been stopped and payments will resume (and suspended payments paid) as soon as the info is received. The claim will only be closed/stopped if no evidence is supplied after 30 days.
So in this case probably a signed declaration saying signing of JSA for 2 weeks I have no other income coming in would do? Followed by another declaration saying I'm signing on JSA again when you get back. May be a month or 2 of bank statements and JSA entitlement letters
Depends on your other circumstances as to what you need so.... prob best to call them.
Oh yeah always best to go into the offices and get things sorted out by an advisor as post can get lost or decisions delayed or both.0 -
Hello sorry to hear about your redundancy quite a blow in this climate I hope things work out fro you.
SO far as JSA I would ask them when you sign on, it used to be with the old system that you got I think it was 2 weeks a year holiday, If I remember rightly you had to prove to them you were going on holiday then you would not have to "sign" the week you were away but would still be paid.
Not sure if this is still the way, cant see how they can stop you going on a pre-booked holiday and then punish you by taking money off you doesn't sound quite rright somehow, I would ask them when you initially sign on.
Sp far as HB and CB again I would give them a call when you have a definitive answer from the job centre.
Hope it all works out have a great holiday

Just had a quick look arouund and it would appear Amistoso is correct, sadly it looks as though you would have to sign off then sign on again when you come home, I dont think it would make any difference to HB and CB but give the a call when your claim is active to make sure

Seeing as you only sign on every two weeks, you may get lucky that the day you need to sign on is almost a day when you will be back. If you miss an appointment, you could always ring up and say you were ill etc.
Not that I'm advocating fraud or anything, but a similar thing happened to my bf and it is just so much hassle to reapply.
We got the third degree as to how we could afford a holiday etc. even though we only paid for a flight by Ryanair so we could take our daughter to meet her family abroad. Seeing as he didn't have a job and I was on maternity leave, it seemed like the best time to go.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
