The most useless beauty products I ever bought....

Coconut oil is excellent for makeup removal as well. Incredibly gentle on the skin. I use it with a muslin cloth.
Flip, is this semi solid oil? A nurse gave me a sample of some ages ago in a little pot. I'd be interested to experiment with it again. Where do you get it in smallish quantities?0 -

I get mine from H&B but like you say its in a large tub. No idea where small quantities can be purchased, maybe someone else will know. It should be solid but slightly liquifies if its a warm day. There used to be a whole thread on coconut oil.

Laboratoire Garnier products are just so harsh for my skin that I now avoid them! The face wipes are so strong smelling of alcohol it's put me off ever using them - my skin used to feel so tight and dry that I thought it was going to split!0

Body butters&creams that are not designed by skin specialist companies.
IE Next, M&S and other makes that put it in a gift set for example. It does not moisturise. I can still get the ones from parfume sets, they make you smell nice, but these I can't stand - no plus points what so ever.
Give me Nivea cream, lotion or body butter any time.0 -

Really?
Laboratoire Garnier are the only wipes I can use on my eyes without it making me tear up. Even the Nivea ones (and normally I swear by Nivea) are not as gentle on my skin.
Their face cleansing gels are very drying though.0 -
I also gave up on spending money for expensive Mascaras. At one point I thought I will treat myself and in my daily regime I will use good products.
I had Estee Lauder mascara, Lancome one, Dior one... No good.
Max Factor it is for me. Never loved any mascara more.0 -

That is a fairy tale.
If you apply top coat the colour will stop fading or "wearing off" as fast, but people will natural nails never get to that point because the vanish chips away..Your nails naturally grease just like any other part of your body and that is why the colour gets "loose" kind of and allows it to chip away.
And that is not going to stop just because you have two three layers.
Fake nails are different, the vanish can "penetrate" the material that layers on your nails and then it doesn't chip away, but just wears off. That is when you are better off putting the clear layer over the colour as that will wear off first so the colour stays vibrant for longer.
However applying clear vanish looks good, especially on deep colours.0 -

I find that the sugar dissolves quickly and if I work it slightly before using it on my face it's fine.
I would be interested to hear if anyone uses home made alternatives to exfoliants.
Using a muslin cloth is another more economical way around this, the cloth acts as the exfoliant, just make sure you use a gentle cleanser, there are many around, and the type that doesn't foam too much is usually a good indication (though this is a general statement and not a rule.)terra_ferma wrote: »I've added a note on my original post that I have dry and sensitive skin. Maybe that's why they work so well. The Lidl ones moisturise my face, and are better than any of the face wipes I've tried.

This forum really helps me decide when it's worth paying extra, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, that's why my regular supermarkets are lidl and waitrose (people react strangely when I tell them, even more when I say that some of lidl's continental stuff is better or the same as anywhere else... but this is a different thread altogetherterra_ferma wrote: »I never use Lush products. I wish that it would work for me! Maybe the enamel on my teeth is just too far gone (after spending 4 of the past 10 years with chronic bulimia and anorexia for the another 7 years of that, my teeth are wrecked! Its all about protection now as they cannot be repaired). I just didn't feel the Tesco version worked for me, but thanks for the tip.0 -

Yes unfortunately - I'd just bought 2 packs too!
The Nivea ones are fine for my skin but I just tend to get the Asda/Tesco Vitamin E ones now as they work just as well and cost under £1!0 -
I once spent £30 on stuff from Clinique (sp?) what a waste of money and soooooo harsh on my skin
Veet hair removal that was "supposed" to stay on whilst you had a shower. Erm no it didn't - power of the water washed it off before it had chance to work
Most other stuff I am happy with but then again I don't spent a fortune on toiletries :rotfl:I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
