Coconut oil is excellent for makeup removal as well. Incredibly gentle on the skin. I use it with a muslin cloth.

Flip, is this semi solid oil? A nurse gave me a sample of some ages ago in a little pot. I'd be interested to experiment with it again. Where do you get it in smallish quantities?

I get mine from H&B but like you say its in a large tub. No idea where small quantities can be purchased, maybe someone else will know. It should be solid but slightly liquifies if its a warm day. There used to be a whole thread on coconut oil.

Laboratoire Garnier products are just so harsh for my skin that I now avoid them! The face wipes are so strong smelling of alcohol it's put me off ever using them - my skin used to feel so tight and dry that I thought it was going to split!

Body butters&creams that are not designed by skin specialist companies.

IE Next, M&S and other makes that put it in a gift set for example. It does not moisturise. I can still get the ones from parfume sets, they make you smell nice, but these I can't stand - no plus points what so ever.

Give me Nivea cream, lotion or body butter any time.

    Really?
Laboratoire Garnier are the only wipes I can use on my eyes without it making me tear up. Even the Nivea ones (and normally I swear by Nivea) are not as gentle on my skin.

Their face cleansing gels are very drying though.

I also gave up on spending money for expensive Mascaras. At one point I thought I will treat myself and in my daily regime I will use good products.
I had Estee Lauder mascara, Lancome one, Dior one... No good.
Max Factor it is for me. Never loved any mascara more.

If you apply a top coat to any varnish, it will make it last longer. I don't know what brands to recommend as I've just stopped biting my nails, so I'm no expert, and I went for a top brand as a treat for my new nails...

    That is a fairy tale.
If you apply top coat the colour will stop fading or "wearing off" as fast, but people will natural nails never get to that point because the vanish chips away..Your nails naturally grease just like any other part of your body and that is why the colour gets "loose" kind of and allows it to chip away.
And that is not going to stop just because you have two three layers.

Fake nails are different, the vanish can "penetrate" the material that layers on your nails and then it doesn't chip away, but just wears off. That is when you are better off putting the clear layer over the colour as that will wear off first so the colour stays vibrant for longer.

However applying clear vanish looks good, especially on deep colours.

I don't use sugar for my body (makes a sticky shower....), but a shower puff which works a treat.
I find that the sugar dissolves quickly and if I work it slightly before using it on my face it's fine.
I would be interested to hear if anyone uses home made alternatives to exfoliants.
One alternative is ground almonds. Another is dried milk powder, these can be mixed and used daily or used one at a time. Another person wrote on another thread that they were going to use bicarb but not yet used it, I thought it may be quite drying but not having tested it myself cannot comment.

Using a muslin cloth is another more economical way around this, the cloth acts as the exfoliant, just make sure you use a gentle cleanser, there are many around, and the type that doesn't foam too much is usually a good indication (though this is a general statement and not a rule.)
I've added a note on my original post that I have dry and sensitive skin. Maybe that's why they work so well. The Lidl ones moisturise my face, and are better than any of the face wipes I've tried.
I also have dry sensitive skin: cannot use many products as they clog my skin, I cannot use coco butter, a wide variety of oils, lanolin oil, parrafin oils...I end up with horrible angry white heads as the product cloggs my skin and it takes a very long time for the painful spots to go down, they stop forming once I have stopped using the product. It has taken me many years to work that one out (at my faces expense!). Baby wipes do the same thing to me: clog my skin, cause me spots. Was just saying this as its not something that works for everyone. And unfortunetly for my bank balance, not me.:(

I have used the shaving power point with an adaptor (may not be legal though.... but as I don't have children and I don't dip the charger in the water while having a bath in it, I would be fine)
Sorry, I was commenting on you saying you had no where to charge the rechargable brushes in your bathroom- was just trying to explain why it is not really (supposed to be) possible. It was an explaination, not meant to cause offence.
The price of a product is not linked to its quality or even the cost of producing it (think of loss leaders), but it's only the amount of cash we are prepared to pay for it. In some cases you get what you pay for, in most cases you don't. This forum really helps me decide when it's worth paying extra, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, that's why my regular supermarkets are lidl and waitrose (people react strangely when I tell them, even more when I say that some of lidl's continental stuff is better or the same as anywhere else... but this is a different thread altogether
I wasn't talking about the quality, I was trying to explain the vibrations per minute. For example, the tooth brushes you and I get? they vibrate about 40-200 times a second (depending on what you buy). But other more expensive brands will have their brush vibrate up to 5000 plus times a minute (hence the label reading "Oral B 5000") SWIM? More vibrations = more plaque and debris removal. Its up to you to decide if this works for you or the extra vibrations are too sharp or get rid of more dirt but you do need to remember that they do lots of tests with these things and this is why they market them as more vibrations or types of vibration= better teeth: don't shoot the messenger!;)
I never use Lush products. For some strange reason I'm allergic to their shops, I can't stand the smell, it seems chemical to me (it probably isn't), too strong to be natural.... What do other people think?
Its not a strange reason, its a marmite sort of shop:D some people love it and others run miles to escape! Its just like any sort of perfume, I hate things like Angel or CK Escape....(you know, all the most loved perfumes) yet others love them, I feel physically ill if someone has too much perfume and sits down next to me. Its these unique like/dislikes that makes us who we are and it would be a very dull (and expensive!) world if we all loved the same things.

I use pronamel too, Tesco do a version that I use as well and don't notice any difference (a part from flavour, and price...).

I wish that it would work for me! Maybe the enamel on my teeth is just too far gone (after spending 4 of the past 10 years with chronic bulimia and anorexia for the another 7 years of that, my teeth are wrecked! Its all about protection now as they cannot be repaired). I just didn't feel the Tesco version worked for me, but thanks for the tip.

Yes unfortunately - I'd just bought 2 packs too!

The Nivea ones are fine for my skin but I just tend to get the Asda/Tesco Vitamin E ones now as they work just as well and cost under £1!

I once spent £30 on stuff from Clinique (sp?) what a waste of money and soooooo harsh on my skin
Veet hair removal that was "supposed" to stay on whilst you had a shower. Erm no it didn't - power of the water washed it off before it had chance to work

Most other stuff I am happy with but then again I don't spent a fortune on toiletries :rotfl:
I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife :D Louise Brooks
