  • Hi,
I'm a long time reader but newbie poster so hello!
Although my partner thinks I have enough creams, lotions and potions to survive a nuclear winter I am addicted to pound shop beauty products which is probably just as bad as one really expensive useless product!

Fake tans - I have millions. All dye your skin orange, some even yellow whether they are 50p or £50.

WORST BEAUTY BUY EVER: - Any make up/spray/body lotion from Primark. Just not that great and the fruity shower gel is like washing up liquid.

BEST: - All my pound shop joy!!!! (Vital Radiance cosmetics made by Revlon for £1, a big tub of St Ives scrub for £1, Neutrogena cleansing cushions £1) and after that its Morrisons 5 for £3 shower gels and a trip to TJ Hughes for Charlie Gold at £3.99 and everyone loves (Until I tell them it's Charlie Gold:rotfl:)

Touche Eclat - Makes my eyes water and sting regardless of where I put it on my face.

L'Oreal Pure Zone Pore Tightening and Clarifying Lotion - left my skin greasy.

Bourjois Mascara - The XXL stuff where you have to put white stuff on first then black. Horrid clumpy stuff.

Numerous foundations which made me look either ill or orange.

L'Occitane Immortelle Brightening Cleansing Foam- extremely stripping cleanser which made my skin feel extremely tight and dry, just awful.

    .

I love L'occitane hair products but anything else makes my face very dry and a little sore. I keep falling for the packaging and nice smells - I never learn. I did mention the last time I was in that some of the face products make my skin sore and they said to bring anything back for a refund if it doesn't agree.

Long lasting lipsticks - they have such a poor consistency - and they look awful. I've bought several makes over the years and they are all like it. I now just use a normal one (Lancome) and reapply more often. It's much better.

Most moisturisers leave me with dry patches and tight feeling, so have bought coconut oil and seem to be getting on with it so far.

Coconut oil is excellent for makeup removal as well. Incredibly gentle on the skin. I use it with a muslin cloth.

I'm coming to the same conclusion... sadly as I hate to keep reapplying stuff!

Almost anything by Skin Doctors is rubbish I have found. And expensive!

I have too many mistakes to even remember!
Hair and body lotions and potions are my weakness, I must spend £30 a month on them now (which is a lot considering I spend less than that on clothes!) I used to think nothing of spending £20 on shampoo and conditioner, which really is a bit silly.

I've tried all the expensive shampoos and conditioners, but finally finished on Boots own brand shampoo and leave in conditioner (£1 each on sale) and Tresemme conditioning treatment, which cost so much less than the expensive brands I've tried and actually work.

In fact the only more expensive hair product I swear by is Frizz Ease Secret Weapon finishing creme, I could never have straight hair without it, but I only ever get it when its on offer.

I used to buy expensive body butter from the Body Shop before realising I can get cocoa butter from anywhere for a few pounds at the most. Someone else mentioned the Body Shop hemp hand protector, which is a bit pricey but really does work. I love Lush bath ballistics, but all that cost for 1 or 2 baths just doesn't seem worth it so I always ask for them for my birthday. I tend to just use supermarket bubble bath, because the bubbles are what make it luxurious for me and it smells fine.

I have finally got to the point where I no longer buy the rubbish Miss Sporty and Collection 2000 foundations which have never matched my skin tone and never provided the coverage I need. I figure spending a few pounds more on Lily Lolo foundation is worth it as I am putting it on my face every day and it lasts for ages.

After trying tons of nail varnishes as well, I would have to say that the cheap Boots 17 ones last longest without chipping. They only cost a few pounds and I can easily go for 3-4 days without having to touch up despite having a job that is quite tough on the nails. All other £15 a bottle brands just sit at the back of my cupboard unused.

If you apply a top coat to any varnish, it will make it last longer. I don't know what brands to recommend as I've just stopped biting my nails, so I'm no expert, and I went for a top brand as a treat for my new nails...
