I agree that knowledge of goal setting and the importance of positive thinking is very helpful. But there are so many better books/DVDs than the Secret! I hate the cultish "oh, everyone who was anyone in history knew this secret, and soon, if you pay money you will learn it too, it's just around the corner!" message, and the extremely badly written book (haven't actually seen the DVD).

Basically, if you're positive and open to good things happening, you will notice, and follow through, more opportunities in life than if you think nothing good will ever happen to you.

A moneysaving tip - use your library, especially for books like this which may not be what you're really looking for. The library should be able to order it for you if they don't stock it, for a nominal fee (50p or similar).

Well yes, plus if there was some true secret to success in all areas of life that was incredibly powerful, it would cost you a lot more than the cost of a book :rotfl:

Yes, opening your mind to opportunity is possibly the only lesson learnt from this book.

Yes libraries and borrowing from friends is a fantastic idea. Before the trend of self help books kicked off, I bought over a hundred. Mostly they were copied material, the others were written by egocentric Americans and were simply painful to read, only a few were worth reading an were passed on to friends.

Well of course, but as it seems most of America hold Oprah's opinion as gospel, I wrongly expected better.

I'm not quite sure why everyone keeps saying that this thing is loaded with people giving it the hard sell. Yes there are sites with that kind of thing but there is much more on the net that is free about it.
Loads of free forums about it. And anyway the LOA worked just fine for me.
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p

I have lived my life by the secret for a few years now and can honestly say it has and is working for me in all aspects, love, wealth, occupation and happiness.

I believe in positivity and what attitude we "put out to the Universe" we get back in terms of how others treat us and opportunities we attract and take.

I enjoyed reading the "Cosmic Ordering Service" book and think the message is to know what you want and where you want to be otherwise how can the "Universe" give it to you?

I am in the process of reading this book and am 'at odds' with myself. I find it inspiring, but what I am battling with is the belief. I am quite a negative person (although I try and be positive) so when I am thinking 'it will happen...... it will happen', there is this nagging doubt in the very core of my brain which then says 'no it won't, not really' - trying to turn that switch off is very hard....... or maybe it is just the cynic in me, I don't know.

I will keep reading the book til the end and put into practice what I am learning, but it is not as easy as they say!!!
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

I watched a bit of the dvd with OH (he got it for free from someone) and we had to switch off after 10 minutes, it was so dreadful. I don't know if it got any better.

It seemed to be saying that whatever you want, just want it enough and you'll get it.

You cannot make something happen by thinking about it, it's slightly more complicated...

As well as the use-the-library advice, I'd recommend this book I enjoyed:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/50-Spiritual-Classics-Discovery-Enlightenment/dp/1857883497/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274109376&sr=1-1

Then you can take your pick from much better written, less shallow stuff.

I would advise anyone who reads this book to also read 'Smile or Die' by Barbara Ehrenreich, to get both sides of the picture. Smile or Die is about how positive thinking can actually be damaging, as others above have pointed out.
