    IIRC?

Thanks for your comment, I can see your point.

    If I Recall Correctly.

And yes, best to stay away from the cultish types - although it works for those at the top of the chain for sure ;)

Deannatrois - the law of attraction is nothing like the Scientologists or whatever. Theres loads of free info on the net and its just about positive thinking and being happy. There isnt any expense involved or meetings or anything. In this day and age being happy and positive can only be a good thing!
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p

Well...there is reasonably heavy marketing for this stuff:
http://store.thesecret.tv/category/29179599821/1/The-Secret-Tools.htm once you have bought the book/dvd.

There is lots free available though, and if it inspires one, as I say, I think that's great. Ultimately though, it all comes back to us and what we make of life. Buying a book won't make everything alright.(but its great if it helps you know you must do that and inspires you to so do)..nor buying the dvd.....and I think buying the repeat payment srt of stuff probably is a symptom of the problem more than a cure!

And yes, IIRC was meant to be if I recall correctly, apologies for the abbreviation and thanks to redman for explaining.

I quite liked it, but it didn't tell me anything I hadn't already heard. I do believe that you become and attract what you think about most of the time. And most of the time we are tremendously negative and expect nothing decent.

But I don't think it's a higher force answering you when you get what you want.

When you think positive and focus on what you desire you are able to recognise and grasp opportunities that come along that will get you what you want and to where you want to be. Those opportunities are there all the time but you just don't see them until your mind switches up a gear.

I thought it was quite a dangerous book, in the wrong hands.

I am all for PMA/Law of attraction/Visualisation of goals etc. They have their place in helping you achieve what you want in life.

The bit I found disturbing was the tripe about diseases and illnesses are borne from stress, if you have suffered abuse, poverty, bad luck it is because of your attitude etc. I think that someone who was in a bad mental frame of mind could feel that all the wrongs in their life were caused by them and it may worsen their self-esteem issues.

It wants to convince the reader that everything in their life is controlled by them and if it goes wrong it is as a result of not being positive enough.

If you are interested in the positive outcomes of your thoughts you would be better off buying a respected book on NLP, instead.

Actually, now you've said that you have reminded me that was one part of it I found quite distasteful and disturbing was them trying to link negative thinking with disease.

Was it cancer they were trying to link? I can't remember. But do remember thinking it was very wrong.

Yes it was cancer. It leads the reader to believe that whilst positive attracts positive, negative attracts negative and therefore if you contract cancer it is a result of your negativity. Imagine someone who has cancer, who has a fragile state of mind or depression reading that!

Whilst the book did have some truths about positive thinking, I just found the aspect of blaming the victim for physical issues or terrible life events, not only complete gobbledy gook, but yes-disturbing!

Oh and off topic as such, but just reminded me. When staying with my parents a few years ago, they were watching Oprah, well not watching it-it was just 'on'. She was actively endorsing 'The Secret' and the fact that the book will bring all your wants-cars, holidays, beach houses in Miami blah blah, all materialistic things. After the advert, Oprah then was attacking the youth of America for being materialistic and wanting all the latest gadgets etc. I thought that rather amusing.

The disturbing thing about the Oprah endorsement was that some loon had read the book, later contracted cancer(breast???)and was on Oprah saying that she was refusing medical intervention as her positive attitude and 'thought vibrations' were going to cure her. Goodness knows what happened to her, but not once was it suggested on the show that the lady should combine positivity with medical intervention. I found the endorsement on Oprah, due the following she appears to have, completely irresponsible.
