Do I need to cancel 3 one-month mobile broadband contract?

Options
I'm about 3 weeks into 3's one-month mobile broadband contract, and I'm assuming it'll be over at the end of the month, but there's a lingering fear inside that they might continue debiting from my bank account. I've tried a few times to get in touch with them to confirm but nobody I've spoken to seems to know.

Does anyone know if I should be worried about any further charges after the month is over?

there is no one month contract. it's a one month rolling contract. if you don't call the cancel, it will roll to next month and so on.

If you dont ring to cancel it will carry on, although i guess you need ot give them 30 days notice that you want to cancel.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

I would advise you to ring and cancel make sure you give 30 days notice
  • Okay, I will call to cancel. But they can't really expect 30 days notice when it's only a one-month contract, surely?

Yes they can. 30 days is a pretty standard clause in any telecoms contract.

The T&Cs for the 1 month boradband (with dongle or SIM only) on the 3 website state:
30 days notice required to cancel after the first month.
Translated I think that means "You're on this 1 month tariff for at least 2 months".

I think you can give notice on the first day of a new 1-month contract so that it comes to an end just as the first month is up.

If you wait beyond the first day of the contract then the 30 day notice period will push you into the second month.

Yes, 30 days notice is definitely the case - I'm surprised the people you spoke to at 3 didn't know that.

If you asked on the day you signed up you could do a complaint since you could've cancelled in advance but otherwise you'll probably just have to pay the extra month. Maybe you could lend it to a friend in return for that month's cash?

Hmm… thanks for the replies. I phoned the cancellation department this time and they told me I have to pay a whole extra month now that I've cancelled, which I can't really afford.

I guess I got confused. I expected "one month contract" to mean the contract would end after one month. I asked them on this and they told me it's NOT a one month contract, it's a "month to month contract". Is there anything else I can do? I don't know anyone personally who would get any use out of it. I only bought it to tide us over until our home broadband got activated.
