MOT - Kwik Fit

Comments

  • I had a flat a few months ago and was forced into going to Kwik-fit, it was a strange town and I was on a spacesaver.

Anyway, told no sir it cant be fixed you will need to replace it. Anyway, had to get it done but told them to bring my old one back with great care and speed and stuck it in my boot.

Popped it into my usual place last week and they said no probs is an easy repair. Thing is all they need to say is that in their opinion it wasnt safe to repair and they are off the hook. One things for sure I wont be going back to a Kwik-fit again!

I knew someone who marked their oil filter before an oil change, basically an elaborate scratch on the paint of it and when they went to get the car sure enough looked like a new oil filter (quick rub with a cloth) so they felt for the scratch and there it was. Needless to say there was no money changed hands that day. Thing is when they do that you wonder what they are actually getting away with especially with most people who dont know what to look for.

Shower of scumbags, perhaps not them all but there are far too many stories about them for it to be isolated incidents.

www.justmots.eu are excellent... NOT justmots.co.uk.. do not know them

They used to be really cheap although their prices have gone up

As they only do mots they have no vested interest in claiming you need non existent work done on your car

    highly recommend them

Quote from website AND this is true as they made minor adjustments to our car (think it was something to do with wipers)
Free help - we will, where appropriate and practical make minor adjustments to assist a Customer's vehicle in passing its MOT.

When you get the car back let us know the exact details on whats been done it should be itemised on the receipt, sometimes they will try and get work thats not needed to pass the MOT, the engine treatment sounds like a complete scam to me for a start

There are also these guys http://www.motmax.co.uk/ not used them but noticed the garage in Lincoln the other day

    I know the feeling well.

In fact my car had just been serviced by the dealer, but I forgot about the MOT as it was the first one it needed.

Kwik Fit found some problem with a loose steering wheel and as I had left it so late to get it sorted out by anyone else (1 day left), I was held over a barrel and I had to pay for the "repairs".

Never used them again and have always recommended no one else does as well.

So thanks for opening my eyes.

So how does road safety compare?

Quite good really, there are a few old bangers about but people tend to keep their cars in decent nick considering if the police stop you they can send the car for a test far worse than the MOT if they think it is unsafe and the fact you get a seperate endorsement and heavy fine for each tyre if they are bald etc same for no lights, each one out is a fine, and wipers the same.
