Good couple of opions guys. Both Ball bearings on the Steering Wheel need replaced, something wrong with the emisions on the exhaust but it turns out they can run a £20 cleaner through it to "get by"... you know I wish I had a better memory or was a mechanic and would be able to tell you more.. I'll find out tomorrow!!

I did get the front 2 tyres are bauld, when I said they were changed at another kick fit 6 months ago I got the reply of it was just an advisory.

So, can someone sharpen my sword here? If I can't get anything back (which I doubt) I want to at least cause a bit of damage, metaphorically of course!!!

If you were mechanic you'd be £500 richer!

That "cleaner" is a simple petrol or oil additive that they buy from motor factors for under a fiver (the one up the road from the motorfactor i work at buy wynns pre mot emission treatment) but any make like lucas, wynns, red-ex etc will do the job! so do that yourself (they literally just pour into either your petrol tank or oil filler and your done, just take it for a motorway drive for 30 mins before the mot)

cost so far £5 (and some petrol)

Buy a new steering wheel from a breakers yard or ebay for £40-£50 ad get it fitted for £100 (these are maximum figures)

    cost so far £155

Tyres can be had for £40, part worns £20 fitted

    cost so far £195.

have they actually done this work?
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Yes! I have had the treatment. I knew what to expect when the guy insisted on having my phone number (just in case) whilst doing the exhaust. Told me I needed new brake discs and pads. I declined the offer and four weeks later it sailed through its MOT at another garage.

If you gave them permission to "go ahead" with the work I dont think you have much come-back. Unless, that is, you find they have claimed to have done work that was not carried out. Then you could create "merry hell". You could however, probably only get proof of this with an RAC or AA inspection and that would be an additional cost.

    Nice thought though.

A new steering wheel from a breakers yard? Sorry it's not going to be new! Forget part worn tyres...most reputable garages do!

Kwik-Rip are awful and very expensive, they are like 'tesco value toilet paper'* at 'quilted velvet' prices ....get a word of mouth recommendation from a friend for an independent and you cant go wrong. I use 2 independent garages, one of my cars wont go over the speed bumps near my favourite garage so i use another but never had any complaints about either.;)

regarding the emission failure, ask them to retest it when the catalytic converter is warm (take car for a sprightly 15 min drive before the test). Some of the older cats take a while to warm and so reach maximum efficiency. My honda intagra failed on emissions and the mechanic very honestly said he should have ideally done the test with a warm cat because my car is older, he advised a free retest with a warm cat... sure enough it passed. :D

every time i drive past Kwik-Sh*t i feel like stopping and hugging the poor customers :A

*i actually like tesco value toilet paper, i find it absorbent, that quilted velvet just pushes the 'waste material' around your hoop with its weird waxy coating... ewww.

In my defence, Kwik fit had taken over a smaller company. Only found out after I booked!

Reading this thread has actually changed my view on a related subject and I thank you all for it, here in the Isle of Man petrol is often 7p to 10p a litre dearer than you lot on the adjacent isle (UK) and many of us moan about it, now here we do not have MOT's and judging by this thread on how going for a MOT often ends up with a minimum of it seems £100 extra to be paid I did a little calculation based on my average mileage, it now seems that if I take into account the amount I save by not having to do a MOT I am actualy getting fuel for on average 3p a litre cheaper. So thanks for opening my eyes.
