MOT - Kwik Fit

Anyone else feel the frustration of taking your car in for an MOT and getting a phone call a few hours later to tell you that the work needed on your car is going to cost a fortune, £500+ in my case, in order to pass the MOT.

I felt like I was facing the barrel of a gun with a busy schedule and needing the car to fulfill this so I went ahead. But it doesn't mean I am happy about it.

Anyone had similar probs, what can I do?

You would be better off going for a MOT to a garage that does not do repairs.

There is less of a chance of being ripped off.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

You went to kwit [STRIKE]scam[/STRIKE] fit, what did you expect?

They are the worst, and most renowned in the trade for "finding" faults. For my friend, he had discs and pads done at an extortionate price there, went back a couple of days later as they were squealing and a different person told him his discs were knackered and pads were worn to metal! which is IMPOSSIBLE short of taking a grinder to them.

He was obviously lying and trying to ramp business. Other situations i know are "blown head gaskets" (£500+) for something as simple as a new thermostat needed (£100ish fitted).

My advice would be to not spend good money after bad and go to another garage, yes you have to pay again but i think it would save you £££ in work. I find independents have the best services and are the most honest (they have to be to survive)!

May i ask what the issues are and what car it is?

I would never go to Kwik Fit for exactly that reason. You only have to go in for a new exhaust and they tell you your brakes are failing (or something) and scare you into having them done there and then.

I always go to small, independant garages wher you know they won't rip you off.

I also know a friend who knew nothing about cars or her rights, she went in for an exhaust which they did (she did need it) and she went back and they told her her tyres and breaks were gone and they were required by law not to let her leave without them so they already fitted them! Then they were generous to give her a discount out of "goodwill".

No doubt i was furious to hear it as they saw her coming a mile away.

I had a bad experience at my last Kwik fit MOT in that it went in OK but came out with a variety of problems, makes me wonder if they deliberately cause them!

Next time find a decent independent garage try using The good garage scheme if you cant get recommendations from friends

This makes my blood boil, the amount of unsuspecting people these scammers turn over everyday is something that needs to be stopped.

donners, I suspect that the "work" was the usual deadly brakes? I'm sorry I can't help but if I were you I would definitely do something.
