Looking at Universities is a good idea - except for the funding scare and the fact that as a result they might be a bit apprehensive of letting stuff out. It is not only staff training - most serious Universities have training programmes for PhD students - in fact we spend more on that than on staff. Will make some enquiries and will let you know - possibly message you.

I am a very scary magnet with influence.

Well hello scary magnet;) I'm just at the stage of casting pebbles and seeing where the ripples land - so I'm sure that sometimes I will be barking up wrong trees - and sometimes they will be money trees - but thanks you for any fact-finding you may be able to do.

So "The Secret" - you know how yesterday I stated that first priority was new computer and projector - well the universe has just provided me with a pre-loved (about 16 mths old) full multi-media bells n whistles laptop.................in less that 24 hours.

...................that cheque is on its way!!!! ......................and the guy of course - :rotfl::rotfl:

i dont know but i feel kinda sad about the fact auntie gok would spend his time being B!t(hy about people ...

you see i think for me personally ... looks and dress really arnt important ... they dont define a person ... and to sit in judgement of some one because of what they wear is a sad reflection of what they must think they need for themselves .... caring about what others think of you yes it shouldnt be ignored ... but at the end of the day it should not dictate to you how you feel or behave ...

maybe i have it wrong though ... maybe i am just happy in my own skin and dont feel the need to glamourise myself for someone else's approval

Oh I agree - although I know that in my job I had to "look" the part, hence my mini-makeover.

To be fair it didn't sound like they were having a go at peoples fashion sense - seeing as the evening was full of men in suits bigging themselves up (loads of pre-elected Govt types who are now in charge IYSWIM) They sat on the sidelines and watched the "movers n shakers" do their thing and made up "voiceovers" about what they could be talking about (both fans of Mock the Week I think) - I'm sure they were very funny.

This isn't my area but I think there's a lot to be said for the personal touch. Have you ever compared the results of putting out a general appeal for help with those of asking face to face? And I think for that reason you may be on to something with the hand-drawn Mind Map: it has the feeling of 'just for you'.
    JMO :)

Personal I find is always better - thats part of the reason I am building up my relational database list over the next few days. I found in the past that each days work was genereated from presious good works that I did - so for me the "face to face" stuff is by far the more important startegy.................. I also prefer doing busines sthat way, I think a lot of people do.

..............and I love hand-drawing Mind Maps. Its like giving myself permission to "colour-in" during the middle of the day - and I can personalise them so much better than I can a business letter.

mg... wouldnt mind learning a bit about mind maps myself ... is mind genius any good?

There are a few computer software programmes out there - and they all have their strengths n weaknesses. I will rustle up a few links for you all later (I don't have any connection to any of these businesses BTW)

These programmes are especially good for people who spend their whole days working on computers - accountants, lawyers, office staff etc - but seem to be less popular with people in the "creative" side - those of you who doodle on the phone etc. But horses for courses.

For me - I prefer the good - ole-fashioned pen n paper ( or back-of-the-beermat) style. Its immediate and as a dyslexic learner I use many more symbols than words - so the speed of hand-drawing appeals to me. Also find that people can't make the excuse "but I can't afford the software" - after all how much does a piece of paper cost??

True Story - the website Streetmap.co.uk was designed by mindmap on the back a three beermats in a a pub garden just off Garrat Lane in SW London. I know cos I still have the beermats :rotfl:

Thank you so much moo2moo - I will start to lurk around and get a feel for what their most pressing problems are - and see if I can come up with a creative solution.

You are so kind - thank you

BTW - how is the challenge in your signature going? Thats an amazing goal to set out to achieve.

  • Good morning Memorygirl,

I love your thread, you are so motivated,I am sadly not so motivated. Could I join in you challenge please? There are thing I want to acheive, a new job being one of them.

*To get a new job, or at least have made steps to acheiving this.
*To pay £1000 off my total debt.
*Take a photo or two everyday for the 100 days.
*To complete a 100 house/garden/allotment task that I have been putting off.

Enjoy your coffee with the girls.

I read this in a Readers' Digest the other day and thought of you all:

A man got the sack for turning up to work with nothing on.

"My Dad told me to live my dreams" he said.

hi Memory Girl - i have been a lurker on MSE for the last no of years and read a lot of the debt diaries but I have to say yours is very inspirational. I am not in debt as such myself but trying to live an MSE lifestyle and cook from scratch etc.

I wanted to ask what is 'mind mapping' I have been given a copy of the secret to read but to my shame I didnt read it, will have to rectify that error. I am trying to be positive in my outlook' ask, believe, receive is my motto. I am going to write my wish list NOW as you only have to do so and you get what you want.,,,,,;)

    All the best
