Re Mr Big's homework - I think it's good when we realise people can be with us for a reason or a season of our lives and that it can be healthy to let go.
I sent a letter some years ago to a toxic 'friend' who had gradually become difficult over a period of time, but I had persevered, but then there were several abusive phone calls from her, which were unwarranted and upsetting.
I said in the letter that I felt the friendship had passed its natural healthy lifespan and thanked her for everything she had been to me and for all that we had shared and the lessons learned. I wished her well and hoped that she would be happy. She sent a letter back, agreeing with what I had said and wishing me well.
It put closure on the friendship and I was glad I had written to her and allowed us both to say goodbye properly. However, there have been other people who were not as close to me, who I have simply not contacted again, when the friendship has run out of steam/we have moved in different directions. My instincts must have been right as these people did not persevere with me either!:rotfl::rotfl:If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

GQ - how lovely that you could write a letter, and that the other person responded
Sounds very grown up and sensible solution all round.
Claire - don't panic about the breadmaker blade!!! My friend did exactly the same, put off sorting out a new one for 18 months, was on the verge of chucking the breadmaker, and then one day just decided to ring the manufacturers - new blade was with her within a week, costing a grand total of £1.50... :rotfl: Worth a tryAnd solid bread usually means too much liquid (or too hot, or too cold, so the yeast doesn't work) - I do it plenty of times
KC, no idea about the coaching programme! And I don't know if you're being wary - perhaps just sensible if it's going to cost a lot of money? Perhaps see what your instinct is after the phone call?
And a special thanks to Fantacee, who just very kindly and competently sorted out my slight technical issueGosh I love this forum :T :T :T

Wow, so much to catch up on. Thanks to everyone for all the positivity.
With regards to toxic people. I want to agree with those that have said it is time to move them out of your life. I spent years being friends with somebody who just drained my energies, one day I realised this and decided to extract them from my life. I explained to them that I was just too tired to deal with their negativity any longer, I needed some space and time to find positivity in my life and that I would contact them again as and when I felt ready to deal with their whining. I am sorry to say that I was that blunt as I had just been worn down. I am not proud that I handled it in that way and really wish that I had the foresight to have dealt with it as GQ did. However, I am not sorry that I removed them from my life.
Dirty Epic, I am sorry that you are feeling so upset by your job. Somebody said to me recently that there comes a time when, rather than doing what you think you should be doing, you will know what you shouldn't be doing . Perhaps that is the point that you have reached but you needed that breaking point. Read Mr Bigs challenge re the breaking point. It might help.
Off to read the challenges. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -

As demonstrated by pigeons
(he likes pigeons). Cheerfully eat anything, make the best use of urban spaces, carry on regardless with only one leg... I think of it as being the very opposite to the 'Yes [that's all very well], but....' attitude - rather than thinking 'I can't do it', thinking 'what can we do to make this happen?'
The very essence of your challenges, I think! :T
Does that make us all "Daff's pigeons! ????

Those rissoles are interesting - they sound very yum! I don't do much with veg other than cook them in a stew or stir fry, so this might be quite a new departure when my kitchen is actually up and running!
Note to self - pop into Karmakats for tea when on my "World Tour" :rotfl::rotfl:

I have been staying away from negative people and places, though - this leaves very few people to be with but hey, quality is what counts.
MG, you are on my A list - and I suspect you will be there for a long time.
