  • Brilliant news, MG and Teapot, and Claire

You sound so happy, elated and motivated too - it's wonderful, I'm delighted for all of you! And it's great to see the feedback to MG and Hyno about PhD challenges and download ideas.

Now my successes are much more modest, but then I'm doing something different - recovering from a long term illness, in other words focussing on getting more enjoyment and activity into life within the tolerance zone of continuing treatment.

I'm pleased to report that I'm going away on holiday for three nights. This hasn't been remotely possible for the past few years. Far enough away to be a break, but not so far from home to risk getting wiped out by the driving.

With me is going the tub of rainbow bubbles I found in an ironmonger's shop window! Of all the places, amongst the buckets and cleaning materials.

And my childhood book arrived this morning - with the same cover illustration that it had 50 years ago! That was an unexpected surprise (it wasn't illustrated on Amazon) and there was a real jolt of recognition.

The book is packed, along with my printout of Mr Big's missives, gel pens and all the homework, mind maps etc I've done to date. Also one or two other books which incidentally fulfil Mr Big's wise words on new knowledge being a good investment.

I won't be online when I'm away, and will greatly enjoy catching up with you MG and everyone else when I get back.

    To progress!
If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Good evening Ladies of the Matrix,

MG is having a good time - she is having really high quality food and by the sound if it, it was a good job she drank only juice these last two days (scallops, salmon and cranachan). She is also doing the after dinner speech - and in her own words she is 'having a ball'!

Please someone, get me out of my misery and tell me what is 'cranachan'?

a quickie from the business centre - 3 speakers were invited, but the other two haven't been asked to stay to dinner:j. in fact one left in tears

so my "high tea" was more tea and cake rather than the full monty as i need to leave room for dinner tonight.

but just in case you are wondering how my presentation was -

    :beer::beer:I TOTALLY ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:beer::beer:

in fact the panel of mr big and five other business peeps gave me a standing ovation :T bit surreal, but appreciated nonetheless.

    "sheeeeeeeeeesssss baaaaaaaaaaaaaacckk!!!!

Cranachan is a traditional Scottish dessert. In more modern times it is usually made from a mixture of whipped cream, whisky, honey, and fresh raspberries topped with toasted oatmeal. It is sometimes called Atholl Brose (which is more properly a drink using similar ingredients). Earlier recipes used crowdie cheese rather than (or as well as) cream, and were sometimes called cream-crowdie. Other earlier recipes are more austere, omitting the whisky and treating the fruit as an optional extra.
A traditional way to serve Cranachan is to bring dishes of each ingredient to the table, so that each person can assemble their dessert to taste. Tall dessert glasses are also of typical presentation.
It was originally a summer dish and often consumed around harvest time, but is now more likely to be served all year round at weddings and on special occasions. A variant dish was ale-crowdie, consisting of ale, treacle and whisky with the oatmeal - served at a wedding with a ring in the mixture: whoever got the ring would be the next to marry.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
