Looking forward to hearing your seminar story! Fingers crossed for the brakes.... Strangely enough, I know someone on another forum whose brakes have just gone - she was quotes £800 by the dealership, and £60 by the local garage - fingers crossed it's closer to the second amount!
Lost a post last night, so I apologise if I already said this somewhere else!MG - I think one load of stuff was about student seminars and offering to put up posters etc if it's needed around universities (I've got easy access to 3).
the other bit was for Clarewop. Have you heard of LETS schemes? Local Exchange and Trading Systems. The national website is here (although it's not a very interesting one!)It's basically kind of an indirect bartering system which uses a 'virtual' local currency.
So, for example, if you 'sold' me a bracelet you'd made for, say, ten 'stones', I would write you a 'cheque' for those ten stones and they'd be transferred to your account (not real stones, of course!). You wouldn't have to swap directly, but you'd then have those ten stones to spend on, for example, someone giving you a lift to a craft fareDon't know whether it operates near you, but something else similar might do. You might also meet someone else who's intodoing something similar?
Just a suggestion worth investigating as a way of getting a lift sometimes if you need it, without having to pay 'real' money on taxis, or feeling like you're asking a favour of peopleAnd you can spend before you earn (I know that goes against MSE mindset - but it's not real money and the system doesn't work at all if some people don't spend first! :rotfl:)

Hi all, I've been trying to catch up with this thread on and off for weeks after seeing lots of people mention it, but every time I come back there's a load more pages, so I'm not quite following things :rotfl:
But I just wanted to say MG you are obviously a big inspiration for a lot of people
And Claire, have you tried Freecycle or local ads for a free/ cheap printer - might be someone upgrading to a new one and getting rid of their old one? Worth a try! Edit - oops I see someone's already mentioned Freecycle - it's still worth keeping an eye on though, a future one might come along that works out better xDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Hi Mags30, I'm studying Human Health & Physiology so that it will take me one step closer to finally making a decision on whether or not to go for teacher training. I failed my science O level way way back in the 80s but now it's compulsory for primary teaching. Last night was my first lesson (the rest of the class started last week) and so far so good! Like I say, it was great to find out what an atom is, although i'm still slightly confused by atoms/cells and how they inter-relate, but am going to do some reading around to bulk out my notes so it should all become clearer soon
I'm going to get an A or A* for this course! *ask me again in May when I'm panicking*0 -
Hi MG
bad news on the car- hope it gets fixed soon, I agree it is great how positive you are able to stay!!
I have been thinking a lot (reading between the lines) about the positive thinking stuff and what I "put out into the world" (so to speak) recently , or this whole year even, it has been about job I hate, not knowing what to do with my life, health problems and most recently lack of income (literally no income- long story!) .... surprise surprise the situation and all those things have gradually got worse... so I had a look through your blog and am starting on the de-clutter this morning (its fine that during the de-clutter the house looks like a bomb has hit it right ??) I managed to borrow a friends copy of eat pray love, and also trying to get hold of the secret so am hoping they will spur me on to grab life by the horns again and get back to doing something positive and that I am good at
so thanking you in advance for all the inspiration!

I step away from the forum for one evening to go to Choir practice and 4 pages pop up!! Blimey! We got to slow down folks!!
Have started on my professional portfolio by doing mindmaps so I can write up the activities in a logical manner. I am still trying to work out how I am going to manage some aspects of it though - like approaching all of my old employers and getting them to initial and sign my sign off sheets. I have thought of sending an email to them initally and asking if they would be prepared to receive a letter from me, and if they could sign the form and send it back to me (in an stamped and addressed envelope that i provide for them...hopefully most of them would agree... but sometimes it is hard to tell if they would or not) If this had been in place when I started training, then this wouldn't be a problem... but it wasn't. Sigh, never mind. I am positive I am going to be able to get it done eventually, and get it signed off by my professional body. And then onwards and upwards with my business idea.
Right, off to get the work started.
If this is stresing you too much crickett - could one of us pretend to be your pa and phone your past employers and get them to do the sign-off.

I'm fascinated by how positive you sound about the situation. If it was me I'd be in tears at the kitchen table. I really hope it doesn't cost too much to fix.
£100
- they can take it in tomorrow morning, so school bus is going to detour round to drop ds1 off tonight and student teacher is going to take ds1 in tomorrow morning.
the joiner offered to collect me to do the school run btw -sweet reallybut first solution is easier.
tears are over -scare mostly - now i just need to focus on my money mantra.

Fab idea re: references :0)
Yup, thanks to the kind people on here who I will definitely reach out to if ever I get stuck, and my determination to conquer my irrational fear of all things scientific, I'm going to blow this course out of the waterA freecycler has offered me 2 biology revision books, so I'm going to pick them up today, thinking ahead!
