Well done, that is the first step. Get some sheets of paper and write all of the suggestions down, put them into envelopes and name them gift 1, gift 2 etc etc. Then write down your list of priorities, ie, declutter dining room, tile the bathroom and put them into order. As each one is ticked off open one of your gifts and start mindmapping ways to bring it to life. You dont have to do anything with right away but it could be your little gift for finishing a room off. Some things take time.
Can I echo what macgirl says. I have a friend with cerebal palsy and we are always inspired by her creativity, we never look at what she does as below par. I just wish I could be as patient with the details as she is. I am sure that people will not think that your things are below standard at all.

On a practical level, with regards to your Incapacity Benefit, do you have an adviser at JCP? If so ask them to talk to you about any schemes that may be operating that will allow you to do test marketing. This involves being able to set up a business for a set period of time and it will not affect your benefits. There are set guidelines but I worked with lots of people who have benefited from it. Its a while since I was involved but I am sure that this kind of thing still exists. Business Link or your Local Enterprise Council may be able to give you more information.

I have signed forms to say i'm doing the jewellery, and i have so send in accounts etc every so often to prove i'm not earning more than £20 a week, (after someone dobbed me into the dss for doing the jewellery) I had to prove i wasn't earming thousands lol, my answer was do you think if i was earning thousands doing the jewellery i'd still be struggling on £100 a week? i'd have a shop with my name proudly above the door. I'm not doing anything wrong, i have had letters from you saying i'm allowed to earn £20 a week doing occupational therapy, but apparantly i was supposed to fill in a form which the letter did not say, Ijust sighned the forms.

other than that i have had no other contact.

Have you tried asking on Freecycle for a printer? What about children's jewelery parties. Little girls would love it and have something to take home. Parents like any party where someone else takes it out of their hands.

I was offered a printer on freecycle but it was too far away I couldn't get there to get it, and the person was unwell and couldn't deliver it.

Childrens parties thats a good one

wow!! I was thinking the other night about hiring somewhere to do jewellery lessons, I so want to come off my incapacity benefit, and earn my own money, (at the moment i am allowed to earn £20 a week doing the jewellery) but with money so tight at the moment, i'm quite afraid to tell the dss I'm coming off it, even though its only £100 a week its very much needed. What if I cannot earn £100 a week?

Sorry girls I seem to be very negative with all your ideas I don't mean to be and i'm going to take them all aboard and once my house and beads etc are sorted, I will take all the ideas on board and have a damn good go.

    Sorry MG :o

    Clare,

You can earn up to £93 per week AFTER EXPENSES (hall hire, materials, equipment, advertising, etc) on a scheme called permitted work. You have to contact the jobcentre and tick all the right boxes and after a year they expect you to come off IB but if things don't work out BEFORE the end of the year you can revert back. You have to keep books and do self assessment.

    TGR :)

I already do self assesment tax, will look into permitted work, but won't go onto it till i have some venues booking in place.

  • Hi Claire. I just Googled and found this link: http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?itemId=1081832712&type=RESOURCES regarding helping disabled people set up in business. I hope it is some use to you.

Are there any schools nearby which you could travel to? They might have Christmas fetes coming up where you could sell your goods. I love the children's party idea, good for hen parties too!

Thank you for mentioning the Big Cheese. It is something I had never heard of and I would love to sell there next year. It is only 2 hours from me so definitely worth doing.

    Good luck!
Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.

Claire - if you like, write up your instructions and PM them to me, and I'll happily print some off for you :) Also, try Freegle/Freecycle for a printer - could your OH help with picking up as you don't drive?

Morning, yawn, everyone. GCSE science girl reporting for duty :) - last night I knew what an atom was, this morning I'm a bit confused and need to reread my notes, but it was quite taxing being back in a science lab after sooo many years!
