My Orange OT-222 from ASDA arrived today(ordered yesterday 12pm with cheaper(!) £4.95 delivery option).
Tesco's VX £9.49 "credit card size" phone(muffin_man's link) is free delivery, even though you don't know this for sure until the confirm order page - That'll learn me to wait until a thread develops....got one of these for a present.
NB "credit card" dimensions of this one is still 1 cm thick...0 -
Its this bit on the ASDA website that I don't get Does that mean that even if you buy it in store, if its under £25 you still have to pay a delivery charge?
seems a bit daft, or am I?
i thought this meant if you order it online but arrange to collect it at your local store there may/may not be a delivery charge (and i think its a bit of a cheek charging you for doing that if you spend less than £25!)
i got one for my daughter and am pleased with it. it is basic but great value. looks smart0 -

I've got a locked Vodafone mobile. since ASDA use the Vodafone network, their sim works without any problem, although you can't access some of the phone options like Internet.0 -
First of all, apologies to anyone who thinks this is terribly pernickety for something that only costs £9 and looks like a bargain.
I was going to buy the Alcatel OT222 on Orange from Asda for £9 inc £10 free Orange Airtime, but then started looking at the Orange tariffs compared to Asda Mobile.
I'm likely to be an infrequent user, so none of the top-up bonuses on Orange would apply.
Calls to Mobiles on Orange are 20p per minute compared to 8p per minute on Asda Mobile.
I've done this calculation;
8/20 x £10 = £4
which says that £10 of Orange credit is only worth £4 of Asda Mobile use.
If the above is correct, I've gone from thinking that I'm paying £9 for something that's worth £10 to paying £9 for something that's worth £4 (if we assume the locked to Orange phone is no longer used after the £10 credit is used up) i.e. a cost of -£1 to a cost of £5.
My question is (assuming you agree with the above), if I can get what I consider to be a better phone for £5 on the Vodaphone network, which I believe I can use on Asda Mobile without any unlocking (?), without even having to buy Vodaphone airtime, is that a better deal (same monetarily, but better phone) ?0 -
Just bought the £9 Alcatel one in Asda Harlow (4.30pm Friday 7th May) - they have loads in store there at the moment if anyone lives nearby and wanted one.Mac OS X0

If so can you please either post a link or tell us which phone your comment refers to and do you mean it is on the Vodafone website? According to posters on hotdeals uk, this phone can be bought online for £10 without being required to purchase Vodaphone airtime. £5 cashback via for example Quidco or Topcashback means the phone costs you £5, provided the cashback tracks.
My understanding is, you should then be able to use it on Asda Mobile without unlocking. Does anyone know if you have to purchase an Asda Sim card (50p) to get the phone to work on Asda's network ?0 -
Their record on paying out seems a bit doubtful.this phone can be bought online for £10 without being required to purchase Vodaphone airtime. £5 cashback via for example Quidco or Topcashback means the phone costs you £5, provided the cashback tracks.
Go to TCB and read through customer comments on Vodafone.
You could end up having a £10 phone for, erm . . . £10.The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.0 -
I bought the ALCATEL OT-222 for £9 Asda in store over the weekend. Works fine, easy to set up with Orange, seems like a great deal for a spare phone, but surprised to find that while it has a picture of two earphones on the box, the earphone lead in the box only has one earphone on it?! Would be interested to know if anyone else has noticed the same thing!0
