There are currently a few mega cheap PAYG handsets available for around £9 plus they include £10 credit.

Don't expect any bells & whistles on the phones, they're bog standard handsets but are good for basic use.

  • Alcatel OT222 flip phone, Orange network, £9. Asda is selling the budget Alcatel handset for £9 in store and online until stocks last plus it comes with £10 credit. This also gives to 2for1 cinema tickets via Orange Wednesdays.

  • England branded Alcatel OT203e, o2 network, £9.50 (plus £1.20 on newspapers). Collect four tokens from the Sun (20-30p) from Saturday 8 May and take them into CarphoneWarehouse before 14 May to get the handset for £9.50 and £10 free credit.

These aren't good for cheap calls, you can get far cheaper calls with other sim cards - see the Free Sim Cards deals note for details. Yet for low users, that want a bog standard handset these are pretty cheap and the bonus credit make them worth it.

Very high users should look at switching to a contract phone. As a rough rule of thumb if you make more than 150 minutes of calls and a hundred texts a month look at going for a contract, read the Cheap Mobiles guide.
