I'm afraid unannounced visitors wouldn't be offered dessert by me, but if they were lucky I would normally rustle up something savory for them!
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Thanks all for the replies - I tried to do a count but it was impossible! does fresh fruit or a yoghurt count as dessert? does pudding count if eaten a while after the main course? a chocolate bar? is it a treat or dessert?
I still think that the always outnumber the nevers but they are extremes. and the situation is clouded by people saying they will eat a square or two of chocolate!!! or prefer cheese! is cheese dessert?
I give up!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont belong to the food police - so people, thanks for your input and whether or not you always, occasionally or never have dessert, puddings, sweets or afters, enjoy your meals!!!

we have things such as fresh pineapple, tinned fruit, ice cream, yogurts, cake sometimes.

We never have a pudding if we go out we find they are too dear.

Thanks Meritaten, I have been really surprised by the responses, I had no idea that our household would be in the minority.

I always put a bun or chocolate biscuit (like penguin) in with kids and hubbys packed lunch. I usually just have a piece of fruit for mine at lunch. I have always had pudding available after our dinner in the evening, either something I have made: crumble and custard etc, or yoghurt, ice cream, piece of cake. But I try to eat mine and get dh and ds to eat theirs later, to avoid the snacking later on!

I usually finish off with a cuppa and something sweet - maybe a biscuit or a chocolate. If I eat out I'll always forgo a starter so I've got room for a pud.

    In total agreement!

I remember the days when I'd have a cigarette after dinner instead of dessert - I now work on the basis that a biscuit has got to be better for me than a fag!
It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?

Wow, I can't believe how many people eat dessert every day! That seems so old fashioned"

I'm a "never" except maybe on Christmas Day lol.

I feel as though I'd be the size of a whale if I ate one every day :D Ice cream/cake/sweets do not figure in my shopping list, although I do admit, I often take a penguin/kitkat to work to have with my afternoon cuppa :)

Don't get me wrong though - I'd LOVE to be able to eat one every day!!

I never used to but since moving in with OH he has always had something for dessert so we have got into a routine of this either cream cake, pie and custard or various other fatty things, I would reduce this though as I notice the pounds I have put on :o
