i have had a monument card for a couple of years now,
the apr is sky high, i also have a barclaycard , virgin, and capitalone,
i managed to lower the apr on barclaycard from 27.9 to 17.9 balance 0
capitalone from 29.9 to 15.9 balance 0
the virgin is 15.9 balance 1400
i phoned monument to see what they can do about apr, and they were not intrerested at all, not even friendly!, my limit is 2000, balance 1400
apr of 29.9, cash 33.9
so i want to do a blanace transfer, i have applied for an mbna classic, im not sure if ill get it,
has anyone else applied for mbna with sucess!

Well, while you're waiting for a really low APR new card, you should transfer the Monument balance to the Virgin or Capital One card a.s.a.p. as you'll pay just over half as much interest.
Check for their balance transfer fees, and do the sums to make sure you'll save money, but I'm pretty sure you will.
HFMEverything turns out all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end.

v good advice, but when applying for mbna , on the do you want to transfer a balance details, i filled in the monument,
i cant really transfer untilive found out if they have accepted and transfered it for me

Ah yes, I know that "anxious pause" you're in.
If it were me, I'd ring them up and see if you can chase up where things have got to. You might be able to do the balance transfer over the phone then, and avoid any danger of duplication.
Though we've all had bad call-centre experiences, sometimes there's nothing like a bit of human contact.

hi all i did was pay the balance of it full, waited for it to show clear, then phoned up, saying i wish to close my account as the interest is to high, they passed me to another dept and looked into my account, and said they can lower it,
i was shocked as i didnt think capital one did this,
yet my cousin has tried the same thing and they couldnt help him but told him to keep account open and they will review in 12 weeks, but he has one late payment? perhaps this affects the decision,
hope this helps x0 -

Completing the balance transfer request on a credit card agreement can sometimes speed things up by a day or two, but unless you've already been accepted and told your credit limit, it's best to keep your options open, IMO, and leave this section blank or state you may be interested. Of course, you might want to commit yourself to a balance transfer if you're in a hurry, have no other option anyway and/or believe the balance transfer could influence the credit limit eventually offered. (I've no real evidence for the latter, just a suspicion that a BT may sometimes influence the limit.)the apr is sky high
Monument has always set high APRs. It's predecessor, Providian, was a high-risk lender. Barclaycard bought it and re-branded, though it still seems to be run along much the same lines.has anyone else applied for mbna with sucess!
Sorry. I have no recent experience. (I closed my accounts when MBNA started the BT fees lark) It certainly used not to be slow though.
Your Virgin card is operated by MBNA as well, but this lender doesn't seem to mind as much as some card issuers. I applied for the Abbey Shareholder card in Jan 2005 and MBNA offered to transfer some of the my unused credit from another MBNA card!Though we've all had bad call-centre experiences, sometimes there's nothing like a bit of human contact.
I agree. Why not give customer services a ring? It's a freefone number after all.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Monumet gave me £1000 limit. APR is 19.9% for purchases. 0% Balance transfer for nine months and 0% on purchases for 3 months...not bad...01. Marriott Rewards VISA (£2700 @ 17.9%)
02. HSBC MasterCard (£2250 @ 14.9%)
03. HALIFAX One MasterCard (£2200 @ 12.9%)
04. Monument VISA (£1000 @ 19.9%)
05. Aqua MasterCard (£500 @ 29.9%)0 -
Thanks for your feedback, Fahim
Is there a balance transfer fee? If so, is it capped?People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
