why have a go what I meant is hes having rehab so he may be able to drive so its not ruled out, thanks to everyone who helped

No one is having a go, we are trying to establish who will be the main the driver, in one post you say he will not be driving again then you say something else.

It seems as though you are trying to avoid paying to have the vehicle insured correctly, in which case you may find in the case of a claim the insurance may not pay out and you could be left with a claim for what could be thousands of pounds.

Contact your father's insurance company. Explain to them that he is ill and is not able to drive at the moment. Explain that you wish to be added to the policy (he will likely have to sign a form to do this) and will be the main user of the vehicle until such time as he is able to drive again. The insurers may agree to do this at no extra premium, they may want to charge extra - either way you will be properly insured. Depending on why your father is unable to drive at present there may be an obligation to advise the DVLA as well.

Ask your mother to contact her insurers to add you to her policy. There may or not be an additional premium.

In the event that the insurers will not add you to either policy, then you are going to have to try and get a policy in your own name for your father's car fully explaining the circumstances to insurers.

Don't try and cheat the insurers or shortcut, by not disclosing full facts. If you have an accident and they refuse the claim because of non-disclosure you will be in deep do do!
