Car Insurance Help

My dad is very ill now so he wont be driving his car again it was only me who drove it for the past few weeks and it only will be me who drives it now
Then you should take over responsibility for his car and insure it yourself (it's effectively yours now), leaving dad with no car and no insurance policy.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
thankyou IAM so what do I end up payting do you have to pay to be added to a policy?0
-
yes but its far to ezxpensive for me to be the main name on it nearly double to what I used to pay0

You held an insurance policy in your name on a Peugeot which you've now sold, the correct course is to inform your insurers so it can be removed from the Motor Insurer's Database, and any wrongdoings of the new owner would not come back and bite you. I can understand why some people fail to do this especially near the end of the insurance contract, eg no refund, or admin charges. If you get a renewal notice, you can use any accrued No Claim Bonus for up to 2 years on a new car/policy.
If you were relying on the driving other cars extension to drive your Dad's Lexus and Mum's Peugeot, that was legally no longer valid once you had sold your own car.
The only correct way you can drive your parent's cars is to get yourself added as a named driver on both of their policies. If you are under 25, yes this will cost.
Edit: sorry, see others have beat me to a reply.0 -

well its a hard subject as we are not 100% that he will be able to drive again but there is a chance0

Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't.
If you insure your dad's car as yours you *might* get driving other cars to cover you driving your mum's car (but that only covers you for damage you do to other people/cars, not your mum's car).I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

But right now you're the only driver, so you can't say he's the main driver!
Can you sell the car and buy something cheaper?I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

thankyou for all the help, I think the best may just to bite the bullet and get insured on my dads then and look into selling it maybe,
Just thought there may have been a legal way around it to keep cost down0 -
As you are over 30, I'm surprised it cost so much when you ran it through the system. Normally 30 - 59 year olds get the best rates and options from all insurers.
If your dad is with Saga, give them a call and explain the situation, I found them really helpful when my dad was in a similar situation.0
