It has been mentioned already that doubt you will get a crisis loan to cover bank charges.

i did answer the question, if you care to read my post again

you will get a crisis loan depending on when you last got money and when you are next due any money/payments for things such as food, gas/electric cards, nappies
you will not get a crisis loan for ANY outstanding bills/overdraughts/bank charges etc
and usualy the most someone gets at any one time is in the region of £60

What on earth would happen if he lost his job and couldn't pay?

Perhaps you should cancel all the DDs and wait until the money is available, draw it out and pay for things over the bank counter.

I bet the money will be in the account tomorrow. never ever try and juggle money based on this payment like you are doing.

why can't you move the dd date to at least a week into the month otherwise next time there is a Monday bank holiday you are going to be a the same boat.

Most likely the bank and not your !!!!!! ex.
And no i doubt a crisis loan would be allowed because you have bank problems.

my ex pays via csa each month and the date is always different, i know roughly when it will arrive but it doesn't get spent until it is there in the bank

Or she didn't receive maintenance and had to manage on the IS etc alone, as many single parents do...

Having been on benefits, I fail to see how you can't manage and pay off the overdraft when you are receiving £360 a month on top of your benefits, OP?

Maybe you need to look at ways of cutting your outgoings?
  • As suggested, making some simple changes, will help you in the future.
Changing Payment dates, to at least a week into the month, especially in May where there are 2 bank holidays, is an excellent suggestion.

With the changes to Income Support, which means you keep all of your child support, not just the first £20, means that you have more disposable income.
You have an ex that is paying, and has been doing so for 4 years, so I would try to refrain from ranting and getting upset, with what sounds to be a one off hitch.

Maybe if he is your ex he shouldn't be paying in to your bank anyway so this isn't the banks fault therefore they will charge you for it, why would you be able to get a crisis loan too pay for an error you and he made, they will most likely say you can have a budgeting loan which you will have to pay back. I know if i had an ex he certainly wouldn't be able to pay in to my account and therefore i would have set up a separate one so this wouldn't have happened in the first place

That would still be your account, then, wouldn't it? Where the heck else is he supposed to pay maintenance?

Unless you get a discount for paying by DD then look at making payments via Standing Order. You can then pay them at a frequency that suits you. Not all companies like you doing this (e.g. mobile phone companies insisting on DD for pay monthly) but I haven't had any problems paying my utilities this way. This means you can target the bill payments to coincide with your benefit payments.

    monthly payment x 12 = weekly payment
