I don't hate anyone, I have dislikes but I never hate.

And I don't vote Liberal democrat!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Do you have a sneaking admiration for Mr Clarkson or do you just dislike foxes more?

re: foxes......it is estimated that foxes benefit farming by 7 million a year by killing rabbits. rabbits cost farmers 120 million annually.

i was in wales at the weekend and the farmer was bemoaning the rabbits who had nibbled his leek crop. mind you i still saw a lot of tory posters up.

I find Clarkson funny but don't always agree with what he says and I am ambivalent about foxes, understanding both sides of the arguement.

It would be interesting to see how that compares with the costs faced by livestock farmers from foxes killing lambs and especially chickens. Having seen the results when a fox got into a friend's hen house* I would guess they would be considerably higher but I have no idea.

*She went to sleep having 32 chickens, she awoke to 31 headless bodies and 1 missing chuck. She wasn't a commercial farmer but she sold the eggs she got and I would guess the cost of replacement would be perhaps £32 or £64 plus the loss of production of eggs for a couple of weeks at perhaps 20 dozen eggs not laid @ £2/dozen = £40. Losses of £70 there minimum. What losses if a fox gets into a commercial barn I wonder? They seem to get into a bit of a frenzy.

I think it's something of a myth that foxes kill lambs. I think they would find it hard to kill a newborn lamb if the lamb was healthy. My experience is that I've seen a fox within a few feet of a lamb, and make no attempt to kill it. The mother was looking on without worrying. No, no doubt foxes do eat lambs which are already dead, or which are very ill... which are somewhat negligable lossess to the farmer.

Foxes kill chickens, and they do it for fun. Its not so much the economic costs of the chickens lost, it is the cost of protecting chickens that is particularly expensive. If they freerange like ours (we have a few backyard hens), the fencing costs much more than the chickens.

The biggest worries about foxes, is that they can harbour diseases, in particular TB... just like badgers... and bovine TB can put a farmer out of business.

We have a fox that runs across our local driving range while we are using it.

He is either suicidal or is taking the pee out of some fox hunters he has recognised.

i'm not an egg or hen eater so have to say i'm not particularly sympathetic. keeping hens in houses is a pretty unnatural way of going about things and therefore leaves them as sitting targets for foxes as well as many other diseases and problems.
