To the person who blanked at fishing: (sorry, forgotten who it was, have a few things to think about at the mo :) - Magscat, perhaps?)

Are the fish spawning at the mo? I'm pretty sure the Pike and Perch have already started, because they are some of the first when the water temperature picks up, even though everything was put back by the cold Spring. Bream, Roach and Rudd tend to start in mid May. You might have more luck with the Tench, because they usually start in June/July and Carp need a period of about 18 degrees C to get the eggs ready for spawning before they kick off.

Or you could go a couple of days before the New Moon on the 14th, they might have their last feed up before spawning then... And it would also depend on the baits you are using - I find red casters are quite good when the water's a bit cold for maggot drowning - and whether you've been unlucky enough to be fishing two days after a match, when they've completely stuffed themselves on boilie bits and groundbait/attractant and all the cpra the pole guys throw in the water....

[Did I just say all that out loud? :D]

    Back to the science books!

Lots of sensible stuff there - for a coarse angler....we only do sea fishing :D

(I know (really, I do!) how silly it is to belong to a sea fishing club based in Birmingham. We do a lot of driving...)

I really appreciated it, though - I'm glad to see it's not just me that worries about these sort of things.

However - I did NOT blank! I caught 11 fish - it's just that they were all rubbish in the grand scheme of things (i.e. not targetted species, bait fish etc. etc.)

To be honest, I'd rather have a good day out with the lads catching nowt than the opposite :rotfl:

(I've flown - I've washed all the fishing gear - in the free powder! - and cleaned all the floors)
