That is not your internet they are hanging off of but there could well be lots of contention if you are getting 12 nearby wireless access points. I guess you are in a block of flats perhaps?

If the Router supports WPA or WPA2 (and your link suggests it) she SHOULD NOT use WEP.
Thats is what i meant. She might have it set to WEP ,meaning its not secure. But i can see how it was read as You must have it set to WEP. Sorry about that.
Looks like OP is just seeing other peoples connections anyway

When you do this, if you hover your mouse over the name of your own connection what does it say for Security Type?

I would suggest downloading insssider, and seeing what channels all these other routers are using, and setting your wireless channel as far away from them as poss ;)

I was also wondering about my security and did what you said and got WPA2-PSK. Does that mean my neighbours can't get my Internet. Many thanks

Unless you tell them what the password is it's a lot less likely, it is possible that they could crack the encryption but a lot more difficult than WEP, I would be happy with this, you could turn off the SSID broadcast from your router too if you want to be more secure.

    Morning all :)

It means that your wireless network is protected with a password that, in theory, only you should know, so yes you are protected. The problem with a lot of the wireless routers is that people don't know how to change the default password on the router, and set up security. This is usually because the instructions that come with them are pretty naff. I just started googling the make/model of my router + security to find out, but I've used them for that long now that it's second nature :D

If you want to be even more secure, you can disable the broadcasting of your SSID (the name of your wireless connection), and lock down your network to specific MAC addresses (each network device, be it wireless or wired, has a unique MAC address) - which means that only your computer, and any others you specify, can access your connection. Probably outside the scope of this post though, but if anyone wants to know how to do it feel free to give me a shout and I've do my best to help

    Beat me to it :p
