5 miles from your job? Did we hear that correctly?
1 hours walk/jog or a very leisurely 30 mins cycle ride for you. Tsk.0 -
I believe the average person takes 10 mins to walk 1 mile or something. If you've got a car that has a max speed of less than 2MPH, I wouldnt bother IMHO

Nah, really, even if you meant to say 50 or 15, then its highly likely that its cheaper to use a train, and it will probably get you there quicker/ take the same amount of time(ish) as a car would
Of course, you could always take a bus, which is even cheaper, but they're VERY slow0 -

Worth a try...
Edit to add: in the spirit of the board, I should declare that I'm a Zopa lender, but probably not active in the market you would qualify forA man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone - Thoreau0 -
What exactly is wrong with your car? Do you not know any mechanics/anyone good with cars that could get the parts and do it for you cheaper? 750 is a lot to repair the car and unless the car is worth at least 2000 i'd rather px or sell and buy another. Doesn't seem like its worth throwing the money at to be honest.0

It is perfectly feasable that there is no convinient public transport system where the op lives - I live in a small town in mid wales, when I used to work in the next town (7 miles away) and worked 9-5, the only bus that would get me there on time was at 7 in the morning and the last bus back was at 3pm - no use unless I could have got my hours changed. There is no train service. We do not live in some kind of frickin eutopia where everyone has access to low-cost, reliable, convinient public transport system. So for those saying "what do you mean there isn't a bus" and "get the train instead then" - you are talking out of your harris, ride your high horse off somewhere else.
Having said that, an hour on the bus is better than no job at all, assuming it goes at the right times. I also fail to understand why the OP cannot cycle 5 miles if they can't afford to repair their car. If I was in that position, I would sell the car and use the money to buy either a moped or an electric bike. You can get a decent 2nd hand electric bike for around £500 to £600 and you don't need to tax or insure it (although it would be sensible to add it to your home insurance). They also only cost pence a day to charge.0 -

So you have an intimate knowledge of the public transport system where the OP lives? Or have you never considered that trains don't go absolutely everywhere in the country? For example, the nearest train to me is 8 miles away - further than the OP's trip to work. Idiot.0 -
Some of you may want to read back through this thread again!
It wasn't the OP who said that she was five miles away from work...........
