Carphone Warehouse what are they like?

As the title says, Im looking at getting a new contract and spoke with a sales person at carphone warehouse.

I nearly went for the deal, went all through the credit check and was about to sign up when i decided to hang on and ask peoples opinion on them as iv been stung before with a contract i wanted out of but found it hard to cancel.

So what are people opinions on them, are they easy to deal with/good customer service?

Thanks everyone

They don't generally have a great reputation for service, but then none of the players in the mobile phone game seem to!

If you sign up for a 12/18/24 month minimum contract with any mobile phone company, they aren't just going to let you walk away from it if you change your mind -- they will expect you to pay to get out of it. Locking you in is how their business works, and if you're uncomfortable about that you should avoid contracts and make arrangements on a pay-as-you-go basis (I'm assuming you're talking about mobile phones, but the same applies for home phone, broadband etc).

    Steer clear.
We had numerous problems when we bought my daughter a phone from them.
They had it in for repair more than once and on one occasion claimed it had gone back to the manufacturer. Two weeks later the phone was 'found', never sent and not repaired.
Coupled with that, their attitude was the worst we've experienced.

From my own experience I would say don't touch them!

They have the worse customer service I have had the misfortune to have had to deal with. That is if you can find someone that wants to deal with any problem you may have.

When you want to leave after your contract has expired it will be an one hell of job. You will be passed from one person to another, on hold for ages. When they finally accept that you want to leave you are on hold again waiting to be given a reference to send to an address in Southampton before the give you your PAC.

    Don't do it, go elsewhere.........

This is MY opinion from the mistake of taking an 18 month contract with CPW/o2. Google to find out other horror stories, many found on this forum.

    Good luck.

How can it be hard to get out of a contract, you call up and give 30 days(or more) notice to get the pac code

You don't contact CPW to cancel your contract, you go to the network provider direct.

What I have found about CPW in general is their mobiles tend not to be locked to a certain network and you can use them on other networks without requiring a unlock. Not sure about 3 phones.

A bonus if you want a PAYG phone or don't want the network crap installed on your phone that some come with.

It is clear from the above that you have never had a contract with CPW/o2!

If you take a contract with CPW/o2, it's CPW that administer the account. CPW are the airtime seller dealing with ALL aspects of the account, this includes issueing the PAC. All the other networks sold by CPW are dealt with direct.

Refer to the many threads and posts here on MSE where customers have had great difficulty with CPW/o2 obtaining a PAC.

My son had a contract with them - nothing but problems - cancelled as soon as the 12 months were up(and he had to cancel with them and not the service provider as the contract is with them)

Universal acclaim for this wonderful company.

As per a couple of details; you DO cancel direct with the network UNLESS it's a cpw O2 leftover (you have to know the history). If it is one of theirs, watch out - lie after lie about not being able to cancel until 35 days before the end of the contract (UNtrue); lies about not being able to let you have the address to write to until then (UNtrue); lies about NEEDING a so-called "disconnection" code in order to give notice (UNtrue); lies about the notice letter having to run 30 days from receipt regardless of contract period end date (UNtrue); lies about "this network no longer has any cashback deals but that one does" (UNtrue usually). Oh, and yes; should your phone develop a problem you may rest assured that their "repair" service will wreck it completely.

Use them and abuse them IF you know what you're doing, otherwise stay clear.

    Yet one more 'happy' customer..........

It never ceases to amaze me when I walk past the CPW in my high street on a Saturday afternoon to see that it is full with unsuspecting customers thinking that they are getting a good deal. If they only knew?

It seems that everything that CPW touch has a problem, Talk Talk and Broadband for example. Cheap deals but very, very bad service. AOL had a bad reputation to start with which seems to have got even worse (having read the forums) since the take over by 'you know who' !

    Don't you just love them......
