I'm sat here having Braxton Hicks contractions again (at least I hope so because I haven't finished packing my hospital bag yet lol), and it suddenly occurred to me, I've no idea what to do if I actually go into labour.

I've got one little booklet from the midwife but it doesn't tell me (just gives me directions to the hospital and lectures me about breastfeeding and folic acid). It might sound silly because it's not my first baby, but I was already in hospital when I went into labour last time because I was induced.

Do I have to ring the labour ward when I'm getting contractions, or do I just turn up? How far apart should they be before I set off for the hospital? If my waters break do I have to go straight there or can I have a bath first? I know this probably all sounds like silly insane worrying, but....help!!

yes ring the labour ward when they are about 10 or 5 mins apart explain you are in labour (don't say I think I am cos they will just tell you to take some paracetomol!)
if your waters break or you have a show (if you think you have time ring them) if not just go straight up and try and get another member of family to ring them. (its important you ring them so they can make room for you)
if you feel you have time for a bath and you think it will make you feel better by all means do so.
do you have a midwife that you can call? she will know best!

    Snaggles,
Calm down love! It's only a contraction!
    (lol)

Honestly, I went into labour with no.1 and just called the maternity ward-they asked how far apart contractions are, how uncomfortable they are etc (apparently they can tell if you really are in labour by your voice! lol) then they'll tell you to come in our not...At least that was how it worked this end of the country...I was induced for no.2 so was already in hospital of course (only after threatening to do it myself with scissors in the hospital carpark!)
You'll be fine, honest! Girls heads are smaller as well so little Natasha wil just POP out!

:rotfl: I know, I sound really silly don't I - I don't know what's happened to my stress levels recently! At least I'm not nearly passing out from low blood pressure any more (nearly exploding with high blood pressure maybe ).

Right, okay, got it - wait until they're 5-10 minutes apart, and then ring the labour ward, and they'll tell me what to do......I can handle that!

What would I do without this forum - it's not even remotely money related but you're all still so helpful and lovely *sob* :)

    :)

See how you go - ring and tell them when you're in labour and if all fine, tell them you'll be in later when it hots up - then try to wait as long as poss at home!! You'll be fine I'm sure - but remember, this labour could be faster so best to go in when you think if it might be getting heavy!

Cattie - I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow, but I always forget to ask her things - I think I'll have to take a list of questions with me!

I'm pretty sure it's not the real thing, don't worry! It just got me thinking that I didn't know what to do if it was.
