What about the 40% of food we Brits apparently throw away every week? Obviously not anyone on this board of course.0

You are dead right, at least with the other poor values you have something for your cash.
When you throw it away, its cost you, you've carted it home & then got nothing at all for your money:eek:0 -

There was a woman in front of me in Morrisons a couple of months ago, and she had bought a pack of hard boiled eggs, without the shells.
Can't remember the price now, but she had/was going to pay a lot just to have her eggs boiled and de-shelled for her.0 -

Just talking about supermarkets, and excluding special offers, soft drinks in cans cost around 75% more per litre than the same product bottled.
For example, at Tesco:
Coke 2l bottle = £1.66 = £0.83 per litre
Coke 6 x 330ml cans multipack = 1980ml = £2.85 = £1.44 per litre
Are cans made from silver or something?...0 -
What may not be value for you can be for someone else.
E.g ready boiled and shelled eggs. If you are out and about and fancy a egg sandwich or such like then it has it uses. I often can't find ready made sandwiches that are nice for me as I don't like salad cream or mayonaise. So I could make a sandwich with the boiled eggs and a couple of bread rolls.
I have a disabled husband who is not to be trusted using a hob/cooker or grill and has one hand with any function in it. So microwave packets of rice are easy for him to use and no need to measure out or mess with the hob.
The same with ready meals and frozen mash, ready cut baps etc it all makes it easier for my husband to feel that he can have a normal life. Granted they cost a little bit more but to make his life easier so be it.
I don't drink that much cola so don't want a bottle I want cans. I tend to only use it as a mixer at the weekend and maybe drink one can during the week if that. So a bottle is no good. I use to buy the cheap cola/lemonade when I wanted a mixer. But I ended wasting much of it as it went flat before I could drink it all. And even at 30p a bottle I find that wasteful. Better to have cans so I don't waste it.
But each to their own.

I think the plastic tubs of shop bought pasta and sauce of some sort are poor value, it is very easy to make it the day before if planning to take it for lunch.
I also think those little tiny bags/little plastic boxes of fruit, which seem to be marketed mostly at children it seems in Mr A at least are dreadful value. Supposedly get a whole apple/pear whatever in them, and they are more than it would cost for a whole bag of value apples. I was in Mr M today and the lady in front of me bought two tiny tubs with a couple of chunks of melon in them and they were £1 each! She could have probably bought a whole melon for that, or not much more.0
