I never thought about it until now but when I signed up it gave me a Blueyonder email address and mobile number then when I went back thinking I had put in the wrong details it gave me a different email and phone number so I just cancelled it, but should they be told as its not good business practice showing other peoples email and phone numbers !.

As I said previously, if they intended for people to start using the site, they'd openly advertise it on your statements and on vanquis.com. The fact that they haven't [yet] suggests the site isn't ready for public use, which could mean it lacks security (as clearly shown when registering) and accounts can be left vulnerable. For all we know, the security and integrity of the site may have not been tested yet and could have serious vulnerable problems which could allow fraudsters to quite easily collect your information.

I'm actually quite surprised at the amount of people willingly handing their card details over to this website, especially when it hasn't been confirmed by Vanquis officially. It obviously must be the real deal if it's showing your balance and transactions, but no one knew that before signing up.

They don't advertise it but someone in one of their call centres did confirm it was there, and reset the passcode for someone. If it was unsecure then surely they wouldn't do that? (Although admittedly the giving out of email and phone numbers is hardly secure!).
  • Hi,

We have received this response from Vanquis:

"Vanquis Bank’s online account service is currently undergoing internal testing. It is scheduled for release in the next few weeks.

We will post information on the vanquis.co.uk homepage as well as in this forum to let you all know when you can register for this service.

We will always ask you to register and log on via vanquis.co.uk. We always recommend to our customers that they access our online services via vanquis.co.uk and never from other sites or URLs.

Thank you for your interest in Vanquis Bank – and your patience while we continue to test the service."

It's not just not good business practice, but a complete and utter, blatant and shameful, breach of the Data Protection Act in every way.

I hope someone has the drive to report this issue to the ICO. I no longer have my Vanquis a/c any more - if I did I'd be fuming about their implementing a "test" system on a public domain, resulting in my details randomly being given out to 3rd parties. Disgrace.

It's irrelevant whether the system is in testing... what is important is that a) they are "internally" testing a website on a public domain, and b) broadcasting personal details on said public domain in breach of the DPA.

I saw this coming... Typical Vanquis really
