How is the Barclays Golden ISA 2 Managed?

Opened my ISA today for the full cash figure.

I asked how it was managed & if i'd be getting a passbook. The woman told me there is no passbook or card. Come to think of it, she never really did answer the question properly. I should've pursued it.

I know i can't pay into it any more, but the g/f has also opened one, so she needs to know how to do this too.

So how do you pay into it?
And how do you withdraw from it?

If there's apparently no book or card (my g/f was told she'd receive her passbook in 10 days).

Hi You can pay in any branch-just take in the sort code and account details, they will tell you the balance if you ask.
I have had one the last 2 years, all has been ok.

No passbook, just a confirmation. To withdraw you have to write a letter or go to the branch, with ID I presume

Bit awkward if you want to know how much is in your account but can't get to a branch for a while - such as myself, i'm limited to Saturdays & if it's anything like last year, i did 27 Saturdays on the bounce at work before i was able to have one off, so that's 26 weeks of not being able to get to a bank.

Can you not register online once it's set up to view your balance there?

  • Hello, I actually work in this very department (ISA accounts) you can add funds to your ISA by cheque (made out the the account holders name re: isa), you could set up a standing order from any bank account to pay a set amount into the account every month ( just watch you don't go over your subscription limit for the tax year) or if you go into branch you can add funds to the account - just take a note of your sort code and account number (should be stated in the welcome letter).

Be carefull that all funds put into the account are yours and have not come from a third party as i have seen funds being sent back to customers if staff think it has come from someone else. All the checks for these sort of things are done in back offices and they will over rule any decision made by staff members at branch .....unless of course it was done by a manager..........

Thanks a lot for your reply.

What does this welcome pack look like as my g/f has been waiting on it a bit & isn't sure she's received it?

Also, can this account be viewed online or is that not possible? (just for viewing balances really)

Finally, when i opened mine on Friday just gone, i opened it with a cheque for the full £5,100 from my Lloyds TSB account.

Would this possibly be rejected due to the amount?

It's just a letter confirming your account details, with a Terms & Conditions leaflet.

You can view it online if you have a current account with them, not sure that you can if you don't.

You can open it with the minimum of £1 or the maximum of £5,100.

In order to manage the Golden ISA issue 2 online, you will need to open a Barclay's Bank Account (from £1 deposit, no fees attached). Once this has been opened you will be able to see your ISA account and any other account that you have with them. It will allow you to transfer in funds from other accounts outwith Barclays using online banking and also transfer money between Barclays accounts. If you want to transfer from Barclays to accounts with other banks then you need to apply for PINSentry. Details on their website.
    Hope this helps

Or, much easier, an e-savings account, which doesn't need a credit check/card/PIN etc.

The ISA had to be opened in branch. Couldn't be done online

Does the same apply for a current account with them if i've already got an ISA with them?

    I wasn't asking that though

My comment was referring to pumpkinettes post about funds being returned.
