Advice on how to do things on HTC Desire please

To delete an app on the Desire you have to go to the Market then click on Downloads which brings up the apps you have installed then click the app and you get the choice to Unistall.
This removes the app from the phone entirely, dragging it to the Remove box only removes the icon on the screen.
What about the ones that are on the phone anyway?
Can they be got rid off?0 -

I beleive the only way to get rid of pre-isntalled apps is to install the generic HTC ROM but that will only get rid of your mobile netwrok's pre-installed stuff. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
