Cant set up e mail on HTC Desire Help please

Im trying to set up e mail on my Desire but for some reason whenever i try to set up my Yahoo account and Google mail account it comes up with the message

Error

Authentication Failed please verify username and/or password

But I am putting in the right details

Please help please

Done that and now im getting a new message saying

Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information,your server is not responding.

What am i doing wrong now?

i encountered the same problem with yahoo on the HTC Desire.
sign in to your yahoo acc and go to options on the far right then click on more options. in the new window click on POP & fowarding in the left column and then select the option 'Allow your Yahoo! Mail to be POPed' then save changes.

It worked for me.

For gmail best to use the gmail app pre installed on your desire.

For yahoo if you are still having problems like me setting it up for IMAP then you can other than what is suggested in the yahoo settings suggestion in the previous post if that doesn't work, it doesn't for me because when I get to the pop / IMAP page on yahoo settings it tells me to upgrade to premier account to allow pop / IMAP for some reason. Others are not getting this issue. Some who had probe like mine got around that by going to region settings and changing it to Asia and it seems to have worked for them. I found another solution that works fine for me, I use the mobile yahoo webpage and once I log in to yahoomail it remembers me and can access my mail when I want. There is another better option which I found later and use now, I downloaded the yahoo app from mobile yahoo browser and can use it just like gmail app now. If you want all accounts in one inbox then gmail website has some options to pull in email from all other accounts or you could try getting the HTC IMAP / pop feature to work again after fiddling settings as suggested by others or me. If all else fails then download k9 app from market and this gives all features of HTC pushmail app I am told.

Do you yahoo mail on internet?

I dont understand what you mean as ive been trying to get yahoo mail to work and still cant.

yes sorry didn't mention it needs to be set from your yahoo internet account, it then allows your phone to access it.

Forget ur phone for a minute. Log on to your yahoo email account via your computer. Once logged on go to the options link on the right hand side of the screen and a menu should appear, click more options. Then click the POP option on the left, select allow 'yahoo to be popped' then save it. Now on your phone go to mail select options and add account, then fill in your yahoo details as
asked. This then should work!

And once you launch that app, it is basically a site shortcut and takes you to mobile yahoo homescreen. At top of that screen you can tap mail option which opens your inbox once you sign in. You can open folders by using menu button.
